Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer to join our team at Legal & General. As a key member of our data engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of our data engineering projects and working closely with solution architects to ensure the integrity and consistency of our end-to-end technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that the solutions developed and deployed are fit for purpose and meet the business requirements, adhere to quality standards, and deliver value within cost constraints.
  • Ensure that all developments follow the agreed change process.
  • Work with security architecture to ensure that all solutions are fully approved.
  • Provide input into project and resource plans and support business case production.
  • Work within an agile methodology framework.
  • Oversee solution development, including implementation engagement as needed.
  • Apply knowledge of technology options and survey external market landscape for solution insights, direction, and vendors, as required.
  • Identify issues and risks and lead their resolution as required.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in existing services.
Requirements:
  • Degree in an appropriate subject, preferable or equivalent qualifications, or demonstrable evidence of relevant business/work experience at this level.
  • API and RESTful micro-services.
  • JVM-based languages, such as Java, and frameworks like Spring Boot.
  • Cloud Platforms, with an emphasis on AWS. Knowledge of other platforms, such as Azure and GCP, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Linux and AWS CLI scripting and automation.
  • Good knowledge of CI/CD automation.
  • NoSQL Database Technology, such as MongoDB.
  • CDC and streaming technologies, such as Qlik Replicate and Kafka.
  • Basic data architecture principles, solutioning, and ETL experience, and containerisation.
  • Knowledge of database structures, such as relational and dimensional modelling and design.
  • Designing and developing streaming services.
  • Designing and developing APIs.
  • Team Leadership.
