Basingstoke, Hampshire, United Kingdom Sebastian's Action Trust Full time
Position Overview

Sebastian's Action Trust is a charitable organization dedicated to offering specialized holiday experiences, along with practical and emotional assistance to children facing serious health challenges and their families. Our mission is to support families throughout the journey from diagnosis, through treatment, and beyond.

We are currently seeking a passionate and driven individual to join our fundraising team. This role will focus on enhancing revenue through various community fundraising avenues.

Geographical Focus: The role will primarily engage with communities in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, and nearby regions.

Role Objective:

The primary aim of this position is to spearhead the creation and execution of fundraising strategies, initiatives, and campaigns within the community. This involves cultivating relationships with third-party fundraisers, volunteers, community groups, educational institutions, sports clubs, businesses, and local communities that share our commitment to improving the lives of families with seriously ill children.

This position emphasizes relationship-building, aiming to foster enduring support rather than one-time contributions. A successful candidate will conclude each year with a greater number of loyal and engaged supporters than at the start. This reflects true growth. The ideal individual will possess determination and enthusiasm, coupled with exceptional relationship management skills and the ability to communicate effectively, identify opportunities, and act decisively to maximize support.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Community Engagement

  • Develop a comprehensive community fundraising strategy and pipeline, focusing on key population centers near our service delivery locations while also recognizing the importance of supportive communities surrounding the families we assist.
  • Identify and define our offerings and needs across various support segments, including schools, community groups, local businesses, and individual volunteers. This role will require a proactive approach to increase the number of organizations we engage with annually.
  • Ensure meticulous planning, especially when collaborating with other fundraising areas, to gain buy-in and understand diverse perspectives.

Volunteer Recruitment and Oversight

  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure a steady supply of suitable volunteers to support local fundraising efforts. This includes building a robust volunteer network with clearly defined roles.
  • Identify volunteer needs, recruit, train, and manage volunteers to enhance our fundraising initiatives.
  • Organize mass volunteering opportunities, including coordinated fundraising collections, and ensure volunteers are recognized and engaged throughout the year.

In Memoriam and Legacy Initiatives

  • Establish plans and promotional materials for In Memoriam giving, tributes, and celebrations of significant life events, integrating these with our existing services for families experiencing bereavement.
  • Advocate for In Memory giving and legacy contributions across the organization, collaborating with event and service teams to create regular remembrance opportunities.

Collaborative Fundraising Efforts

  • Work alongside the fundraising team to design and implement strategic fundraising campaigns during key periods.
  • Coordinate the distribution of collection materials and maintain accurate records of fundraising activities and supporter interactions.
  • Communicate effectively with supporters through various channels, advocating for an exceptional supporter experience.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to enhance relationships with supporters and volunteers.
  • Share compelling narratives that illustrate the impact of our work on the lives of seriously ill children and their families.

Reporting and Administrative Duties

  • Partner with the Finance and Fundraising Administrator to develop efficient systems and processes, ensuring supporter journeys are prioritized.
  • Oversee the processing of funds raised and provide regular updates on fundraising activities and volunteer engagement.
  • Maximize opportunities for gift aid and legacy contributions within your operational area.

The responsibilities outlined above are not exhaustive, and the post-holder may be required to undertake additional tasks as directed.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in fundraising within the charitable sector, demonstrating success in securing new income and fostering lasting relationships.
  • Desirable: A fundraising qualification or evidence of continuous professional development in community fundraising.
  • Ability to create and manage a community fundraising plan and pipeline, identifying new opportunities and assessing the effectiveness of initiatives.
  • Exceptional relationship management and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail combined with strategic thinking to maximize impact.
  • Understanding of digital fundraising potential and proficiency in relevant digital tools.
  • Ability to work independently while being a supportive team member.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Possession of a full, clean driving license, with flexibility for occasional evening or weekend work.

Compensation Package

  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Competitive salary
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Death in service benefit
  • Time off in lieu for additional hours worked
  • Generous holiday allowance
