Position Overview

The National Archives (TNA) is seeking a motivated and skilled professional to join our team as a Grant Development Manager. This role is essential in identifying and securing funding opportunities for various projects, partnerships, and fellowships. Collaborating closely with the Head of Grant Development and other team members, the Grant Development Manager will significantly contribute to advancing TNA's Research Vision and enhancing our fundraising capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, negotiate, and manage grant proposals that align with TNA's strategic objectives.
  • Provide guidance to project teams, facilitating the preparation of applications and ensuring effective grant management.
  • Engage with current and potential grant funders, representing TNA on both national and international platforms.
  • Oversee multiple grant applications simultaneously, collaborating with colleagues across diverse disciplines.
  • Contribute to a growing portfolio of projects, including digitization, public engagement, and educational initiatives.
  • Work in partnership with The National Archives Trust to promote public knowledge and enjoyment of archival resources.
  • Enhance the research training program, supporting staff development to foster independent researchers and successful grant applicants.

The National Archives serves as the official archive for the UK government and for England and Wales, providing public access to a vast collection of historical documents spanning over a millennium. As an Independent Research Organisation (IRO), we prioritize multidisciplinary research related to our collections and activities.

Department Overview

The Grant Development team operates within the Research, Grants, and Academic Engagement department, focusing on:

  • Research strategy and implementation
  • Enhancing research impact and engagement
  • Grant fundraising efforts
  • Management of external funding
  • Grant-making initiatives

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and expanding department dedicated to achieving our funding goals and supporting a wide range of research initiatives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively.

  • Experience in cultural heritage sectors.
  • Familiarity with UK research funding mechanisms.
  • Training in grants management.
