Our Senior Fellowships division oversees a variety of esteemed awards aimed at supporting distinguished mid-career and senior researchers.

We are in search of a driven and seasoned professional with outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and stakeholder management capabilities to take on the role of Senior Manager, overseeing the creation and execution of a portfolio of notable initiatives.

It is essential to possess demonstrable experience in research management or grant funding environments.

Your responsibilities will include steering the implementation of the Royal Society's Senior Fellowship programs, notably the newly established Faraday Discovery Fellowships, which signify a considerable investment by the Society.

You will lead a team of four, expected to cultivate and sustain robust partnerships with external collaborators and represent the Society at various external engagements.

Key skills required include the ability to facilitate meetings and discussions, manage substantial budgets, allocate staff resources effectively, analyze intricate data, engage with award recipients, and execute comprehensive decision-making and monitoring & evaluation frameworks.

Utilizing your initiative to its fullest, you will work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and undertake a wide array of responsibilities.

This position presents an exciting opportunity to join the team at the inception of a new Grants Strategy.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Head of Senior Fellowships and other senior leaders to help achieve our strategic goals and maximize the impact and effectiveness of the Society's initiatives.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Heads and Directors to design, shape, and implement the Royal Society's grant activities in alignment with the Society's and Grants' strategic objectives, as well as the requirements of the research and innovation community.
  • Provide oversight of the portfolio, leading a team, and working in partnership across departments to ensure cohesive and effective operational methods.
  • Serve as a vital link with the external research community and partners, fostering and maintaining productive relationships and insights.
