London, Greater London, United Kingdom Chemonics Full time

Overview

The Cross-border Conflict Evidence, Policy and Trends research initiative unites top-tier experts and local scholars to investigate conflict-impacted border regions, exploring the interconnections of conflicts across borders and the factors influencing both violent and peaceful behaviors. Supported by UK International Development, this program provides robust, actionable research aimed at shaping policies and programs that foster peace.

Position Summary

We are seeking qualified candidates for the role of Research Fund Manager to oversee, delegate, and implement research grants associated with the Research Fund – the funding mechanism of our conflict research initiative. This adaptable commissioning platform allows grantees to conduct in-depth research on core themes, extend our reach into new areas, respond to urgent crises with timely research, experiment with innovative technologies, and support researchers from the Global South. The Fund offers various award sizes, from substantial grants exceeding £500,000 for multi-year research portfolios to smaller grants of up to £50,000 for quick-turnaround evidence reviews or limited fieldwork projects.

Key Responsibilities

Award Lifecycle Management

  • Facilitate the complete lifecycle of awards, encompassing design, solicitation, selection, implementation, monitoring, uptake, and closure, ensuring adherence to our Research Fund Manual and relevant regulations.

Grant Management and System Enhancement

  • Collaborate closely with the Research Fund & Uptake Director, serving as a resource for all aspects of research commissioning and grant management.
  • Oversee procedures related to grant solicitation, selection, due diligence assessments, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, ensuring compliance with established policies.
  • Organize and lead Fund meetings, prepare agendas, and document discussions as necessary.

Financial Oversight

  • Manage financial elements of proposals and awarded grants, including budget reviews for appropriateness and consistency.
  • Conduct regular budget forecasting and assist in the overall budgeting process as required.

Research Commissioning and Management

  • Assist in the commissioning of new projects that align with strategic objectives, including developing concepts and drafting terms of reference.
  • Supervise and mentor research managers, providing support in risk, finance, and compliance matters.
  • Coordinate with research managers and communications teams to create outreach materials and manage editorial processes.

Capacity Building Support

  • Help develop and implement a capacity-building strategy for grantees, including training and advisory support.
  • Foster a community of practice to enhance international research collaboration.

Leadership and Representation

  • Promote the program by engaging in external events and networking with stakeholders, articulating a clear understanding of our mission and values.
