Essex County Council is pleased to present an exceptional opportunity for dedicated individuals to join our Travel Training Team as a Special Needs Education Facilitator. This position is centered around supporting youth and adults with Special Educational Needs, mental health issues, or disabilities.

The role is based in Suffolk, covering various areas. The primary objective is to achieve positive outcomes for individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, assisting them in becoming independent travelers and improving their overall quality of life. You will provide personalized support to young individuals, guiding them on how to navigate public transportation for specific routes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing individualized Travel Training to clients
  • Conducting home assessments for young individuals and adults
  • Crafting tailored training plans that address each client's unique needs and the complexities of their designated routes
  • Offering ongoing feedback to clients and referral sources
  • Building and maintaining relationships with existing and new organizations
  • Engaging in relevant community events
  • Assisting the broader travel training team as necessary

This position also offers the chance to pursue a Level 3 qualification in Education and Training, equipping you with essential skills to effectively plan, organize, deliver, and assess educational sessions across various environments.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to complete a British Sign Language Level 1 course, enhancing your communication with service users. This training will enable you to:

  • Engage in basic conversations with individuals
  • Ask and answer simple questions about personal information
  • Use finger spelling for names and places
  • Interpret and utilize numbers for various contexts such as age, time, and money
  • Describe different weather conditions

Key qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum qualifications of 'A' level / NVQ level 3 in a relevant field, along with 5 GCSEs A-C (new GCSE 4-9) including English and Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience
  • Essential prior experience in an SEN or adult social care setting, demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to the sector
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Motivated to inspire confidence and build lasting relationships
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage workloads effectively, possess strong IT skills, and meet deadlines
