Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Secretary/Administrator to join our Histology team at University Hospitals Dorset. This role involves providing comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to our Consultant Histopathologists. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a full range of secretarial services, including the preparation of medical correspondence and patient-related documents.
  • Manage data entry into the laboratory computer systems and assist in generating specialized reports.
  • Handle inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating professionalism and efficiency.

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, enabling them to prioritize tasks effectively. Confidence in communication with colleagues, clinicians, and external parties is essential. Attention to detail and a commitment to teamwork are vital attributes for success in this role.

Working Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday.

Candidate Profile:

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Good general education, including English and Mathematics.
  • Desirable: Proficiency in audio typing and copy typing, RSA II or equivalent, or extensive secretarial experience.

Experience:

  • Essential: Previous experience in a Secretary, PA, or Administrator role, with strong PC and data input skills.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with health service professionals and previous secretarial experience in a similar environment.

Knowledge:

  • Essential: Basic IT skills, including proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Desirable: Understanding of medical terminology and hospital management systems.

Personal Attributes:

  • Essential: Ability to work collaboratively within a team, maintain confidentiality, and manage a busy workload.
  • Desirable: Problem-solving skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.

Language Requirements:

  • Essential: Proficient command of written and spoken English, with a polite telephone manner.
