Position Overview

As an Assistant Life Support Technician, you will support the Life Support Technicians (LSTs) and Life Support Supervisors (LSSs) as needed. When solely qualified as an ALST, you will function as a trainee LST.

It is essential to be well-versed and experienced with the diving systems in operation.

Key Responsibilities

Core Functions

PRIMARY

  • Maintain a detailed logbook documenting employment activities.
  • Understand and adhere to the responsibilities outlined in IMCA D 013.
  • Assist and support the LSS and LST safely and efficiently, under their guidance.
  • Familiarize yourself with all components of the Dive System and relevant operating procedures, with guidance from the LST or LSS.
  • Ensure all equipment is operated safely in accordance with Oceaneering Dive System Manuals, focusing on medical equipment and sanitation systems.
  • Support the LST in verifying that all equipment is suitable, well-maintained, and compliant with relevant standards.
  • Be knowledgeable about chamber blow-down preparation and operation, as well as decompression procedures.
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of diver bedding, clothing, and bell run equipment before chamber use.
  • Maintain personal and food hygiene standards, ensuring cleanliness in food preparation areas.
  • Foster good communication with chamber occupants, addressing divers' needs respectfully.
  • Familiarize yourself with Oceaneering Diving Operations documents, including the Diving Manual and Emergency Procedures.
  • Be well-acquainted with vessel-specific emergency procedures and ensure regular drills are conducted.
  • Assist in maintaining chamber hygiene requirements.
  • Participate in drills and exercises to support the LST, receiving guidance as needed.
  • Keep an accurate LST logbook, ensuring it is signed by the LSS, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Conduct effective handovers and implement management of change procedures.
  • Assess ongoing competence of supervised personnel.
  • Promote a culture that prioritizes health, safety, and environmental matters.
  • Communicate effectively with the dive team, marine personnel, and deck crew.
  • Encourage team members to address issues calmly and promptly.
  • Support teamwork and cooperation among colleagues and supervisors.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Uphold the company's quality assurance and control standards during all operations.
  • Assist the LSS and LST in maintaining hygiene within the Saturation System, ensuring compliance with Diving Health and Hygiene Procedures.
  • Register with the competency assessment scheme and stay informed about emergency procedures and equipment.
Safety Commitment

Ensure understanding and adherence to safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

General Responsibilities

Perform tasks in accordance with the Company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Systems.

Execute assigned duties with diligence regarding the Integrated Management Systems.

Minimize waste and promote environmentally friendly practices, contributing to continuous environmental improvement.

Supervisory Role

This position does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the Diving Operations Manager, Offshore Manager, Life Support Supervisor, and Life Support Technician.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL

  • Completion of diver training to IMCA-recognized ALST qualification.
  • Successful offshore medical clearance for the work area.
  • Completion of an offshore survival course relevant to the work area.
  • Training in leadership aspects.
  • Familiarization with employer company policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of personal safety practices and procedures on-board.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of company safety management systems, including incident reporting.
  • Awareness of factors affecting dive team safety and security.

  • Understanding of IMCA guidelines.
  • Awareness of workplace and environmental conditions.
  • Familiarity with relevant IMCA HES guidance.
  • Understanding of hyperbaric evacuation system procedures.
