ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Support and Care Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to assist individuals who prefer to stay in the comfort of their own residences, helping them maintain an independent and fulfilling lifestyle. The assistance you provide will be tailored to the specific needs of each service user, as determined through an assessment process. This will be documented in a support plan and risk assessment, which will remain accessible in the service user's home. It is essential that you adhere to these documents and report any changes in the service user's needs.

KEY DUTIES

In your role as a Support and Care Assistant, you will be tasked with fulfilling the personal care requirements of service users. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering exceptional care standards to clients residing in their own homes within a supportive care environment.
  • Enhancing the well-being of service users by assisting with various aspects of daily living, including personal care tasks such as morning and evening routines, dressing, bathing, grooming, and hygiene management.
  • Carrying out domestic responsibilities, including changing bed linens, laundry assistance, and maintaining cleanliness in kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Preparing meals and beverages in accordance with service users' preferences, dietary needs, and cultural practices.
  • Encouraging physical independence by utilizing mobility aids and ensuring safe handling of equipment.
  • Building a trusting relationship with service users to foster a supportive environment.
  • Assisting with health-related needs, including medication management and maintaining accurate records of visits.
  • Adapting to the evolving needs of service users and communicating any concerns to the management team to ensure that support plans are updated accordingly.
  • Providing compassionate end-of-life care as specified in the service user's support plan.
  • Promoting emotional and physical well-being through engaging activities, such as shopping trips and hobbies.
  • Responding swiftly to any signs of neglect or abuse, ensuring that all incidents are documented appropriately.
  • Utilizing call monitoring systems as required, logging in and out during visits, and completing necessary documentation.
  • Maintaining a professional appearance by adhering to uniform and safety guidelines, while recognizing the importance of health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborating effectively within a team, demonstrating flexibility to cover shifts as needed, and participating in training and meetings.
  • Addressing unplanned needs of service users promptly and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Respecting confidentiality and complying with data protection regulations.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • No prior experience is necessary; however, a willingness to participate in induction training and complete the Care Certificate is essential.
  • Open to seeking guidance and support when needed.
  • Basic proficiency in English and mathematics is required.
  • Willingness to learn and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of confidentiality principles to protect service users' information.
