Position Overview

The Assistant Life Support Technician plays a crucial role in supporting Life Support Technicians (LSTs) and Life Support Supervisors (LSSs). When solely qualified as an Assistant Life Support Technician, they effectively function as trainee LSTs.

They must possess a comprehensive understanding of the diving systems they operate.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Maintain a detailed logbook documenting employment activities.
  • Ensure understanding and compliance with IMCA D 013 duties.
  • Assist and support LSS and LST as needed, following their guidance to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Become well-acquainted with all components of the Dive System and specific operating procedures, with guidance from LST or LSS.
  • Operate all equipment safely, adhering to Oceaneering Dive System Manuals, with a focus on medical equipment and sanitation systems.
  • Support the LST in ensuring all equipment is well-maintained, certified, and compliant with relevant standards.
  • Be knowledgeable about chamber blow-down procedures and decompression protocols.
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of diver bedding, clothing, and bell run equipment.
  • Understand personal and food hygiene practices, maintaining cleanliness in food preparation areas.
  • Maintain effective communication with chamber occupants, addressing divers' needs respectfully.
  • Familiarize oneself with Oceaneering Diving Operations documentation, including Emergency and Contingency Manuals.
  • Thoroughly understand diving-related emergency procedures and ensure regular drills are conducted.
  • Assist in maintaining chamber hygiene standards.
  • Participate in drills and exercises under the guidance of LST or LSS.
  • Keep an accurate LST logbook, ensuring it is signed by the LSS, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Facilitate effective handovers and implement management of change procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing competence assessments of supervised personnel.
  • Promote a culture of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) awareness, demonstrating active leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with dive teams, marine personnel, and deck crew.
  • Encourage open communication regarding issues or concerns among team members.
  • Support teamwork and cooperation among colleagues and supervisors.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Uphold the company’s quality assurance and control standards in all operations and diving activities.
  • Assist LSS and LST in overseeing hygiene within the Saturation System, ensuring adherence to Diving Health and Hygiene Procedures.
  • Be registered with the competency assessment scheme and stay updated on emergency procedures and equipment.
Safety Commitment

Ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

General Responsibilities

Perform tasks in accordance with the Company’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Systems.

Execute assigned tasks diligently, minimizing waste and promoting environmentally friendly practices.
Supervisory Role

This position does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities.

Reporting Structure

Reports to Diving Operations Manager, Offshore Manager, Life Support Supervisor, and Life Support Technician.

Qualifications

Required
  • Completion of diver training to IMCA-recognized ALST qualification.
  • Successful completion of offshore medical examination suitable for the work area.
  • Completion of offshore survival training appropriate for the work area.
  • Training in leadership aspects.
  • Completion of company familiarization training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of safe working practices and safety procedures on board vessels and installations.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and guidance.
  • Knowledge of company safety management systems, including incident reporting and investigation.
  • Awareness of factors affecting dive team safety and security.
  • Comprehension of dive system operations.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and risk assessment principles.
  • Understanding of permit to work procedures and management of change.
  • Familiarity with company hazard observation systems and overall dive system configuration.
  • Knowledge of hyperbaric evacuation system procedures and emergency decompression protocols.
  • Understanding of fire and emergency drills related to vessels and systems.
