Position Overview

The Assistant Life Support Technician plays a crucial role in supporting Life Support Technicians (LSTs) and Life Support Supervisors (LSSs). When solely qualified as an Assistant Life Support Technician, they operate as trainee LSTs.

It is essential for the Assistant Life Support Technician to possess experience and a thorough understanding of the diving systems in operation.

Key Responsibilities

Core Functions

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintain a detailed logbook documenting employment activities.
  • Ensure compliance with IMCA D 013 duties.
  • Assist LSS and LST in a safe and efficient manner under their guidance.
  • Familiarize oneself with all relevant components of the Dive System and specific operating procedures.
  • Operate all equipment safely in accordance with Oceaneering Dive System Manuals, focusing on medical equipment and sanitation systems.
  • Support the LST in ensuring all equipment is well-maintained, certified, and compliant with relevant standards.
  • Be knowledgeable about chamber blow-down procedures and decompression protocols.
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of diver bedding, clothing, and bell run equipment.
  • Understand personal and food hygiene practices, maintaining cleanliness in food preparation areas.
  • Maintain effective communication with chamber occupants, addressing their needs respectfully.
  • Be well-versed in Oceaneering Diving Operations documentation and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in drills and exercises, ensuring familiarity with emergency protocols.
  • Assist in maintaining chamber hygiene standards.
  • Complete company documentation accurately and maintain a signed LST logbook.
  • Facilitate effective handovers and implement management of change procedures.
  • Promote a culture of health, safety, and environmental awareness.
  • Encourage open communication among team members regarding issues or concerns.
  • Support teamwork and cooperation among colleagues and supervisors.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the company’s quality assurance and control standards during operations.
  • Assist in overseeing hygiene within the Saturation System and ensure compliance with Diving Health and Hygiene Procedures.
  • Stay registered with the competency assessment scheme and be familiar with emergency procedures and equipment.
Safety Commitment

Ensure understanding and adherence to safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Other Responsibilities

Conduct work in alignment with the Company’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Systems.

Perform assigned tasks diligently, focusing on integrated management systems.

Contribute to environmental sustainability by minimizing waste and promoting eco-friendly practices.

Supervisory Role

This position does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the Diving Operations Manager, Offshore Manager, Life Support Supervisor, and Life Support Technician.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Completion of diver training with an IMCA-recognized ALST qualification.
  • Successful completion of an offshore medical examination.
  • Completion of an offshore survival training course.
  • Training in leadership aspects.
  • Completion of company familiarization training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of safe working practices and safety protocols on vessels and installations.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of company safety management systems, including incident reporting procedures.
  • Awareness of factors affecting the safety and security of the dive team.
  • Comprehension of dive system operations and emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment principles and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Understanding of company hazard observation systems and overall dive system configuration.
  • Familiarity with hyperbaric evacuation system procedures.
