About Adoption West:
Adoption West is a Regional Adoption Agency and a registered Voluntary Adoption Agency, commissioned by various councils. We offer a comprehensive range of adoption services, including:
- Recruitment and assessment of prospective adopters
- Family finding services for children in need of permanency through adoption
- Post-adoption support services
- Support services for birth families and adopted adults
This is an exciting opportunity to join Adoption West as we enhance our established foundations and maintain our 'Good' rating from Ofsted.
Role Responsibilities:
The Adoption Support Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the Adoption Service's activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating letterbox and direct communication between adoptive families and birth families
- Engaging directly with children and young people
- Assisting birth parents with letter writing and life-story work
- Providing support to adoptive families
- Organizing events for adopters and children
- Contributing to the development of best practices
This position will particularly focus on assisting adopters with educational challenges and parenting support.
Candidate Requirements:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A levels / National Diploma or equivalent experience/skills
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently under deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Proven negotiation skills, especially in sensitive situations
- Self-sufficiency in planning and organizing work, including data management
- An understanding of Government initiatives related to Adoption best practices
- A collaborative spirit, contributing to service development with a customer-centric approach
- Good IT skills
- A valid driving license and access to a vehicle for regional travel
