You will maintain the administrative duties required to sustain the smooth running of the Bowel Screening programme and will be expected to assist with monitoring service productivity and audits as well as all other reports required by Trust Board, commissioners and the BCS Quality Assurance team.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required to maintain and develop relationships with a wide range of internal and external contacts.

You must be compassionate and caring, with good communication skills as you will be required to discuss information with patients and relatives and ensure that all information is fully understood. You must be self-motivated and able to work under your initiative, as well as be part of a dedicated team.

You will need to be flexible and resilient to cope with the demands of the role. Good IT knowledge is essential with evidence of Word/Microsoft Excel, as you will need to record, collect, audit, and monitor data accurately. Experience in booking appointments and using the CareFlow EPR System (or equivalent) would be an advantage.

This post will require specific on-line training to use the NHS Digital (Open Exeter) Bowel Cancer Screening System and will be part of an induction programme on commencement of the post.

The Kettering and Northants Bowel Cancer Screening programme has been running for 16 years and is well established, currently serving a population of approx. 900,000.

We are a busy service, and the post holder will be expected to work on his/her own initiative and as part of a team, sharing an office with other BCS administrators and the SSP team. The BCS office is located in the Endoscopy Department at Kettering General Hospital, so you will also have daily interactions with the wider Endoscopy team.

Participate in all aspects of the administration and clerical team working

Accountable for providing an administrative service to the BSP Management Team and to support the effective delivery of the Programme.

Liaise with other administration services to ensure smooth referral of patients for colonoscopy and nurse-led clinic lists.

Act as first point of contact with the Regional Hub (Nottingham)

Arrange nurse-led (SSP) clinic appointments

Participate in the management of BCS, repeats and surveillance waiting lists

Make clinic appointments for all new FIT referrals, surveillance patients and necessary follow-up appointments as required.

Arrange colonoscopy appointments at the identified screening centres.

Ensure smooth referral pathways are adhered to for patients referred to local Trusts.

Maintain the BSP surveillance waiting lists and book appointments when surveillance is due.

Participate in public health promotion events across the screening catchment to raise awareness of the BCSP.

Support the BCS Programme manager in the development of performance reporting to the National Screening Programme, strategic groups and the wider health community.

Attend BCSP local and regional meetings.

Answer, and take appropriate action to resolve enquires via telephone and face-to-face with patients, visitors and colleagues internal and external to the programme

Input and maintain accurate data on Open Exeter (BCS system), and local booking and tracking systems i.e., Somerset, CareFlow EPR (or equivalent systems)

To communicate with patients verbally and in writing information regarding any screening appointments or procedure dates booked.

Work closely with the Programme manager & Lead SSP to identify adequate capacity to meet the demands of the service and take positive proactive action to ensure adequate provision in the service and escalate concerns in an appropriate manner
