Kettering, United Kingdom Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Full time

An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Consultant Histopathologist within the department of Cellular Pathology at Kettering General Hospital. We would welcome applicants interested in either a substantive or NHS locum posts.

The appointees will join an existing team of Histopathologists. Each of the current consultants has a special area of interest and if the new appointee has a specialist area arrangements will be made to accommodate this.

The department is proactive in working with network partners in Leicester and Northampton in providing a high quality and efficient service.

Kettering has close links with University Hospitals Leicester with junior pathologists rotating through the department. The post-holder would be required to participate in training and education plus audit activities and also participate in relevant quality assurance schemes. Kettering is an old market town situated in the centre of England. It is set in attractive countryside and there is easy access to other major medical centres such as Oxford, Cambridge, Leicester, Birmingham, Nottingham and London.

Job Description & Person Specification
- Pending Royal College Approval.

The post holder would be required to participate in the histology and diagnostic cytology service. NB. There is no gynae cytology service on this site. If they were not able or willing to carry out autopsy work this would not necessarily be a bar to appointment as participation in post mortems is optional. The development of a special interest will be encouraged and the appointee will be expected to take a lead in an area of cancer work. The appointee will be expected to participate in the appropriate cancer site-specific multidisciplinary meetings.

The hospital and department deals with a “DGH” range of specialities including support to all breast, bowel and cervical screening programme activities. KGH is the bowel cancer screening centre for Northamptonshire and there is a very active NHS treatment centre which focuses largely on surgical activity in support of the various screening programmes. There is no neuropathology or renal biopsy service.

The post holder would be encouraged to develop leadership skills to take a full role in the management of the department and participate in the trust wide organisation in time.
