Our client is an excellent school providing education to students aged 4-16. A particularly attractive aspect of this school is their approach to delivering learning and supporting children, which is done so with a holistic approach. Through this approach, learning is delivered with a balanced & rounded academic curriculum alongside pastoral & spiritual development. The school opened its doors in 2019 and are now operating in their 4th academic year. They are part of a large & locally based, forward-thinking academy trust. This is a school that has steadily shown improvement through student attainment and staff development since its' inception. Due to the manner in which children are supported, this has been a key contributor to their successes.
This role of Learning Support Assistant - Behaviour is an important role for the school to appoint for, given their overall approach. Alongside other colleagues in the pastoral team this role focuses more on the management of learning behaviour for their children who require alternative, short-term provision in addition to their standard pastoral support. A large part of this role will involve working with students in isolation. As a school which is growing in size & stature, they have a forward-thinking approach and are keen to appoint the ideal person in order to enhance their students' time at school.
The Learning Support Assistant - Behaviour successful applicant will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- The post holder will directly influence students in school whose behaviour represents a barrier to learning and who have been identified as benefiting from attending AAP.
- Typically the post holder will work with individuals and/or small groups of students.
- To create an environment in AAP which helps identified students develop a sense of belonging to the school community, a sense of self-worth and competence and of empowerment to make decisions about their life in school.
- To create and maintain an ethos in AAP which is conducive to the aims and values of the school.
- To log behaviour incidents, contribute to a weekly behaviour log and create and circulate a termly and annual analysis report focusing on progress and attainment.
- Developing and implementing systems and processes in reporting on progress and attainment of the students attending AAP.
- To create and maintain an ethos in the AAP which is conducive to the aims and values of the school.
- Working as part of the additional needs team in the school to develop and deliver effective strategies to students to help them understand and take responsibility for their own behaviour.
- Delivery of appropriate behaviour management interventions with identified individuals and small groups.
- To create and enforce a highly structured environment for students with consistency of expectation and clarity about the expectations of behaviour within the school.
- To create a culture of work in students with an emphasis on developing the social skills of students in particular skills of collaboration and respect.
- Work with the additional needs team to analyse behaviour and data to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the strategies used.
- To emphasise the development of students’ literacy and numeracy skills through the work they do in the AAP.
- Lunchtime supervision duty included.
- Flexibility will be required to cover duties after school hours, for example, for detentions, parent meetings, etc.
A full job description is available for applicants that satisfy the initial pre-screening process. As part of this role you may be required to do home visits, therefore having your own transport to get around would be an advantage.
This role is open to applicants with pastoral and wellbeing experience who have previously worked in an education (or very similar) setting. Ideally you will have held a previous similar post or have specific advanced skills & experience with behaviour. Naturally, given the nature of the role, you are expected to have a sound understanding of and be able to demonstrate previous experience of working in a child-welfare (safeguarding) orientated environment.
Led by an approachable headteacher, welcoming colleagues and set in beautiful surroundings with period buildings, this really is a fantastic all-round opportunity for an able & passionate person looking to support young people in their development. Future development opportunities would
