The Role

The role has a responsibility of the asset management of the London Archives and Provenance holdings, ensuring safe keeping of historical documents and ensuring best practice for storage, whether onsite, offsite or digitally.
- Key Responsibilities / Tasks (include but are not limited to the following):
- To respond to and action in a timely manner the day-to-day enquiries-
- Train staff on use of Provenance Archives & Online Portals e.g. PastView-
- Management of the Christie’s Library Collection (CLC), the global knowledge management depository, which includes training staff to add their departmental holdings, together with the registration of details of Christie’s published sale catalogues and e-catalogue links-
- To work with the external paper conservator with the ongoing preservation and conservation programme of stabilising historical 19th century auctioneers’ books-
- Liaising with the external bookbinder, ensuring that published Christie’s catalogues are batched up and sent to the binder-
- Ensure that the collections are managed to optimise the use of space and to keep storage requirements within bounds-
- Act as Subject Matter Expert and Change Agent in helping to define future strategy for best use of off-site storage and/or digitization of Christie’s Archives-
- To revise and update the Emergency Disaster Management document and update the action procedures with regards to the paper-based collection, in the event of a major incident-
- Host and help Christie’s Provenance & Research Specialists onsite, whilst ensuring Christie’s confidentiality and GDPR compliance-
- Support future digitisation projects for key Christie’s collateral-
- Engage with key business stakeholders to define future strategies for research best practice and efficient ways of working-
- Identify and engage with key third-party suppliers/specialists to support with the modernisation of the Christie’s Provenance Research Service-
- Engage with the business to better manage the London holding of research materials including Libraries and Catalogue Publications-
- Partner with wider Operations, Archives and Record Management Staff to drive synergies and improved cross-collaboration-
- Champion Archive Department achievements and legacy at all levels of the business-
- Management of the Archives Apprentice (Junior Provenance Researcher)-
- Management of flexible pool of casual Provenance Researchers, ensuring keeping to budgets-
- Other duties as assigned by Manager Degree and/or relevant professional qualifications and/or equivalent on the job evidence-
- Applicant should have a broad knowledge and passion of art history-
- Proven record of running an archives/library and delivering exceptional client service-
- Experience in archive/library facilities management and planning-
- Ability to provide research and reference services-
- Ability to work creatively and collaboratively-
- Ability to prioritise and plan work activities-
- Proven ability to think creatively and strategically and to translate strategy into action-
- Experience managing budgets, staff and collections, providing user education and training-
- Strong professional English language skills, both written and spoken-
- Foreign language skills desirable-
- Excellent IT skills-
- Excellent planning/organising skills-
