Communications & Engagement Specialist
**Communications & Engagement Specialist**
**Grade 3**
**Salary GBP 49,563 - 57,477 (if London based) depending on experience.**
**Other Locations: pay will be commensurate with experience and the market rate for location.**
**The Purpose**
Around the world, at least 6 billion people lack meaningful access to justice. The Legal Empowerment Fund (LEF) was created in 2021 as the first grantmaking initiative solely dedicated to supporting the grassroots legal empowerment movement. We offer multi-year core funding to grassroots organizations who are supporting their communities to tackle systemic injustices and advocate for expanded protections under the law.
Hosted by the Fund for Global Human Rights, the LEF has distributed over $5 million in grants to 132 grantees in 56 countries through its participatory grant-making mechanism. These groups are supporting the most marginalized populations to know, use and shape the law by utilizing legal empowerment strategies, such as legal aid and case management services, and strategic litigation to further progressive policymaking, human rights education, and climate justice activism.
Now, as the LEF reaches its next phase of development, we are seeking to expand our public presence and build the global movement for grassroots legal empowerment. This is an opportunity for an outstanding communications and outreach professional to take ownership of the next phase of our global public outreach strategy and shape our ongoing impact, support fundraising for the growth of the LEF, develop our profile with key audiences, and work directly with grassroots activist groups to amplify their voices, stories and demands.

**The Position**
The LEF’s Communications & Engagement Specialist will be responsible for managing the LEF’s day-to-day communications and working collaboratively on its long-term communications strategy. Responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing, implementing, and evolving communications for the LEF by sharing learning from the LEF’s work, creating content spotlighting grassroots legal empowerment groups, and helping to build the global legal empowerment movement.
- Supporting LEF funded groups to amplify their stories and develop their communications.
- Continually developing the LEF’s messaging frameworks and talking points.
- Managing external consultants to create visual content about the LEF.
- Managing the LEF’s digital presence, including social media channels and Wordpress website.
- Cultivating and maintaining relationships with LEF strategic partners to amplify grantee stories.
- Working with international LEF grantees to gather content such as stories, photos, and videos to demonstrate the impact of the LEF.
- Creating content to cultivate funder relationships and engage new donor audiences.
**Special Skills/Professional Characteristics**
- At least 4 years of cross-cutting communications experience, in a human rights, social justice, or philanthropy organization.
- Demonstrable experience of using web content and social media to increase reach and profile.
- Experience of creating messaging and content for funding, advocacy and activist audiences.
