We are currently creating a pipeline for an upcoming opportunity for a Head of Commercial on behalf of our client DWP.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. As such, we operate on a scale that is almost unmatched anywhere in Europe and most people in Britain come into contact with us at some point in their lives.

Working with DWP, you will be helping us to drive our priorities to:

- Run an effective welfare system that enables people to achieve financial independence by providing assistance and guidance into employment
- Increase saving for, and security in later life
- Create a fair and affordable welfare system which improves the life chances of children
- Deliver outstanding services to our customers and claimants
- Deliver efficiently: transform the way we deliver our services to reduce costs and increase productivity

**As a **Head of Commercial **your main responsibilities would be**:

- Lead the commercial strategy definition and planning across a complex strategic transformation programme.
- Bring together and build and lead a high calibre commercial team to shape the commercial strategy and deliver the plan through working collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Provide compelling cases to senior officials and Ministers on the commercial strategy, approach and benefits.
- Identify and manage commercial risks and provide critical input to the Programme Business Case.
- Demonstrate strategic agility and flexibility in determining and constructing commercial arrangements that are compelling and support the delivery of Programme objectives.
- Make commercial judgements that will need to be justifiable both in the immediate short term and under long term challenge.

**You’ll have relevant experience in**:

- Delivering commercial strategy against complex and time critical requirements for a large, complex organisation. This to include significant experience of negotiating and managing large and complex contracts influencing markets to achieve strategic business objectives.
- Working at executive/board level in a large complex organisation and the confidence to provide challenge and influence at Ministerial / Board level to deliver on functional priorities.
- Providing visible, positive and collaborative leadership within a complex organisation.
- Driving best practice procurement initiatives, influencing senior leadership and Ministers.
- Procurement methods and regulation in the UK.
- Influence at the most senior levels.
- It is desirable for the Director to have membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply or any other equivalent organisations.
- Experience of working within or alongside public sector procurement regulations is highly desirable
- Experience in digital and shared service commercial delivery is highly desirable- Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas_
