Bangor University Established in 1884, Bangor University has a continuing tradition of academic excellent, both in terms of its teaching and its research.

Today, Bangor University has approximately 7,000 full-time students and 3,000 part-time students supported by 2,400 members of staff, with approximately 45% of students coming from Wales, 49% from the rest of the UK and Europe, and 6 % from the rest of the world, from as many as 69 countries. 18% of our students are studying for postgraduate degrees.

The School of Educational Sciences offers a wide range of academic courses, including undergraduate and postgraduate ITE courses, part-time and full-time undergraduate BA and BSc programmes, a range of part-time and full time Masters courses (including the new National Masters in Education), full-time and part-time Education Doctorate courses (EdD, ProfDoc) full-time and part-time MRes and MPhil programmes and full-time and part-time PhD programme.

CaBan is an innovative ITE partnership comprising four strong and equal partners: a wide variety of Lead and Network schools; Bangor University (BU); GwE; and CIEREI. Each has a key role and all share, with a passion, the vision of enhancing the life chances of children and young people across North Wales and the wider world, through the development of world class teachers to work in our education system.

The School is renowned for its both Welsh-medium and English medium provision, whereby undergraduate students are able to study for their degrees through the medium of Welsh or English. Research submitted by Bangor University’s School of Education contributed positively to the University’s success in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework for the Modern Languages and Linguistics Unit of Assessment. The Unit was recognised as being joint 2nd in the UK for impact, with more than two-thirds of the research outputs rated as either world-leading or internationally excellent. 90% of the research case studies submitted were rated as having world-leading impact, with the remaining 10% having excellent impact at an international level. Recently we established the CIEREI Education Research institute that is a strategic partnership between Bangor University, GwE (the regional School improvement Agency for North Wales), and our regional schools. The aim of CIEREI is build a world class research community in North Wales.

Purpose of the Job

The role holder will join the ITE team in the School of Educational Sciences. They will support delivery of core curriculum as well as delivering future developments and innovations to the programme, including advances in teaching and research excellence within education. The purpose of the job includes:

- To provide quality, engaging teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. To develop teaching materials or methodologies, for example course design or assessment and being module coordinator or contribute to module co-ordination.- To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including supervision of projects.- To strengthen the existing links between our research activity and the local community and within our HEI-schools partnership.- To engage with Welsh Government and other organisations on issues relating to Education.- Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.- Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting under graduate and postgraduate student experience, contributing to community engagement).Main
