Bangor Business School are seeking to appoint 5 permanent full time Lectureships in Management. The School has ambitious plans for growth with the appointment of Professor Bruce Vanstone as the Head of School.

Educated to PhD level, you will be expected to teach at all levels with some modules drawing on your research interests and expertise, and to contribute to postgraduate supervision - you will have the potential to become, outstanding scholars.

You will contribute proactively to Bangor’s ambitions as a sustainable university and will make a substantial input to the process of equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to work and live in a way that safeguards environmental, social, economic and cultural well-being.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for these posts.

Overview of the Management group

The Business and Management Group at Bangor Business School encompasses a range of disciplines including Organisational Behaviour, HRM, Strategy, Marketing, Tourism Management, Operations Management, Entrepreneurship and Knowledge Management. The group is concerned with the innovative use of management approaches and techniques, resources and processes to enhance and develop organisations. We have received over £10 million in funding in recent years in leadership, social enterprise and green innovation.

The research active group is committed to knowledge generation, transfer and commercialisation and is very keen to enhance its teaching and research in areas related to sustainability. We focus upon private, public and not for profit sectors in order to develop understanding of key domains within the broader sphere of management.

We have popular undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Business Management. All of our Master’s degrees are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management and our MBA Environmental Management is also accredited by the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). We have a strong track-record in developing newly qualified PhDs into successful academics.

Purpose of the Job
- To teach a wide range of modules in Management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of projects and dissertations.
- To develop teaching materials or methodologies, for example course design or assessment, and be module coordinator or contribute to module co-ordination.
- For those appointed to a Teaching and Research contract, to conduct and report on research of an international standard in a relevant field, with evidence of quality and international peer recognition.
- To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- To conduct administrative tasks as designated by the Head of School.

Applicable to both Scholarship and Research:
Grade 7:

- Teaching duties will include:
- Establishing a record of teaching excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Planning, preparing and delivering lectures and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes including delivery of quality modules that attract, engage and retain students;
- Motivating students to proactive engagement in learning, and providing meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work within agreed time constraints;
- Examining and supervising/co-supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Keeping abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments;
- Ensuring that all students are provided with a supportive learning environment and provide advice and guidance to individual students as their personal tutor;
- Participating in Quality Enhancement procedures;
- Contributing to the teaching and assessment of the School’s portfolio of Management modules and programmes at various levels according to the needs of the School, including designing, developing and delivery of a range of teaching materials for study at various levels;
- Relating, wherever possible and practicable, teaching to the surrounding area by using the local environment to engage students.

Additional duties for those appointed to a Teaching and Scholarship contract will include:
- Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.
- Depending on profile, publish evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.

Research duties for those appointed to a Teaching and Research contract will include:
- Personal research, and/or collaborative research with colleagues in the School or across the College / University;
- Managing one’s own research projects, with an emphasis on research output of a quality and quantity to contribute positively to the esteem and resources generated by the Research Excellence Framework;
