Overview

The School of Human and Behavioural Sciences houses two of Bangor University’s high performing departments: the Department of Psychology, and the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences. Our world-leading research spans cognitive neuroscience, clinical interventions, psychological wellbeing, elite performance, physical activity, and health and applied human physiology. In the recent Research Excellence Framework Exercise, 86% of Psychology outputs were rated as either 3* or 4*. The Department of Psychology was also ranked 17th in the UK for the societal impact of its research. Our research environment is supported by in-house, state of the art equipment and resources including a research-dedicated 3T MRI, supporting fMRI, MRS and DTI; multiple eye-tracking labs; high-density EEG; and MRI-guided stimulation techniques including TMS and tDCS. Our programmes are regularly ranked amongst the top ten in the UK in the National Student Satisfaction Survey, and together with our research, ensures a vibrant learning experience with academics who have an international reputation in their specialist area. The Department of Psychology was ranked 4th in the UK for student satisfaction.

Our dedicated team of teaching and scholarship academics support and deliver curricula across the programmes and have a focus on student support and the student experience. We have a clear promotional pathway for teaching and scholarship academics which has resulted in several of our teaching team achieving professorial conferment in teaching and scholarship. Members of the teaching team are accredited by Advance HE from Fellow to Principal Fellow and two also hold a National Teaching Fellowship. The team offer mentorship and support to colleagues. Purpose of the Job
- To teach relevant psychology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including support for research projects and placements.
- To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- To undertake administrative duties as designated by the Head of School.

Main

**Responsibilities**:
Teaching duties will include:

- Plan, prepare and deliver teaching to a range of class sizes, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds and ensuring the implementation of inclusive practice.
- Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.
- Act as a personal tutor to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Maintain and develop scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.
- Disseminate evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, papers in academic journals and/or conferences.

Research duties will include:

- Engage in scholarly and other relevant professional activities (e.g., Reviewer and/or referee for academic journals, contributor to academic conferences).

Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:

- Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g., School and University Open Days).
- Contribute to the School’s management and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g., organization of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures (if module co-ordinator).
- Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.
- Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g., membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting undergraduate and post graduate student experience, peer review of student research proposals).
