Overview

Purpose of the Job
- To teach across a range of modules in linguistics / English language studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of dissertation research projects.- To develop innovative teaching materials and assessment methods.- To provide module leadership where required and to work collaboratively with other module leaders.-
- To conduct and publish research of an international standard in a relevant field, with evidence of quality and international peer recognition.- To contribute to marketing and recruitment activities including contribution to Open and Offer Holder Days.- To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.- To conduct administrative tasks as designated by the Head of School.Main

**Responsibilities**:
Teaching duties will include:

- Establishing a record of teaching excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to offer at least one module in their area of expertise at the MA/MSc level, and to actively attract PhD students to the School;- Planning, preparing and delivering lectures and tutorials, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes;- Motivating students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work;- Keeping abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic, and technological developments;- Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects;- Acting as personal tutor to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students providing advice, guidance and support;- Participating and planning the development of new teaching and learning materials;- Contributing to the development of new programmes and undertake the role of module coordinator.-
Research duties will include:

- Personal research, and/or collaborative research with colleagues in the School and / or across the College / University;- Manage one’s own research projects, with an emphasis on research output of a quality and quantity to contribute positively to the esteem and resources generated by Research Excellence Assessments;- Disseminate and publish results of research in high quality learned journals, books, book chapters or articles;- Contribute to the process of successfully securing grants, scholarships, and other forms of external funding;- Contribute to research groups / networks internally or externally to the School and / or University; Engage in scholarly and other relevant professional activities (e.g., reviewer and/or referee for academic journals, contributor to academic conferences); Actively attract and supervise PhD students.Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:

- Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g., School and University Open Days).- Contribute to the promotion and external profile of the School.- Contribute to the School’s management and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g., organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures).- Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.- Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g., membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting undergraduate and post graduate student experience, peer review of student research proposals, contributing to community engagement).Other
