Applicants should have a PhD (or be near to completion) in conservation science or a related discipline (geography, ecology, environmental economics), an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of conservation, and an enthusiasm for teaching in the classroom, in the field and online.

The role is available from 1st September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter and the post is available until 30th June 2025.

Applications will also be considered to carry out this role on a part-time or job share basis.

Overview

The School of Environmental and Natural Sciences is one of the leading centres in the UK for teaching and research in environmental sciences, conservation, soil science, molecular ecology, zoology, and forestry. We offer a suite of Conservation degrees at undergraduate level (including Environmental Conservation, Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, Zoology with Conservation, and Forestry with Conservation), a well-established MSc programme in Conservation and Land Management and, new for 2024, an MSc in programme Wildlife Conservation. The School is part of the College of Science and Engineering along with the Schools of Ocean Sciences, Computer Science & Engineering, and the BioComposites Centre.

Purpose of the Job

The School wishes to appoint a temporary Lecturer in Conservation Science (Teaching and Scholarship) to support aspects of our conservation curriculum. We are looking for someone who can get up to speed quickly and contribute enthusiastically and flexibly to both undergraduate and MSc level teaching on modules such as 1st year tutorials, Advances in Conservation (year 3 undergraduates), field courses as appropriate, and dissertation supervision.

**Responsibilities**:

- Teaching_
- Deliver lectures, tutorials and field trips in a wide range of topics and respond effectively to a variety of student backgrounds and class sizes.- Motivate students to engage in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.- Act as personal tutor for undergraduate and postgraduate students and provide pastoral support.- Contribute to the development, delivery, and quality assurance of the undergraduate curricula.- Maintain an excellent standard of teaching as indicated by peer observation, quality assessment, student feedback etc.- Work collaboratively, sharing good practice with colleagues within the school and the college more widely, as appropriate.- Management and Administration_
- Co-ordinate modules and programmes as required.- Attend relevant board meetings.- Carry out other management / administrative duties as specified by the Head of School.Other

- Qualifications/Training_

Essential
- A PhD in conservation science or a related discipline (geography, ecology, environmental economics), or be near to completion.Desirable
- Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) or recognised by the HEA as a Fellow, or equivalent qualification.- Experience/Knowledge_

Essential
- Experience of teaching in a higher education institution.- Experience and knowledge of conservation science and/or practice.Desirable
- Experience of module delivery in higher education.- Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.- Evidence of scholarship relating to learning and teaching through publication of books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.- Evidence of Conference and/or seminar presentations on pedagogy.- Skills/Abilities_

Essential
- Have networks in conservation science or practice.- Ability and enthusiasm to teach in the classroom, in the field and online.- A willingness to
