Purpose of the Job

• To teach clinical skills to health science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of students as they complete formative and summative assessments.

• To develop ways of teaching clinical skills to include blended and in person approaches, teaching materials and assessment.

• To support inter-professional education and learning in skills and simulation.

• To support module and course design, assessments and develop skills for module co-ordination and module leadership module coordinator.

• To provide the highest quality pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

• To undertake administrative duties as designated by the Head of School to engage in School citizenship and personal development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder will:

• Prepare for and facilitate clinical skills sessions

• Prepare for and teach integrated clinical method (clinical communication skills and basic physical examination techniques)

• Prepare for and facilitate clinical simulation

• Work within the School structure and pedagogy to deliver the designated course material

• Attend briefing sessions prior to each teaching session

• Attend and contribute to tutor training sessions

• Provide formative feedback to the Programme Leads and clinical skills group as a whole and to individual students within the groups throughout the academic year

• Complete relevant sections of the student portfolio and record of achievement, to include termly and annual student appraisals

• Provide summative feedback to students where indicated; for example, marking and giving feedback on reflective essays.

• Participate in peer support and quality assurance processes including appraisal.

• Develop and review curriculum material.

Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:

• Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g. School and University Open Days).

• Contribute to the School's management and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures (if module co-ordinator).

• Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.

• Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting undergraduate and postgraduate student experience, contributing to community engagement).

• Contribute to all assessment processes including question writing, standard setting, production of assessment materials and acting as an examiner for face-to-face clinical assessments.

• Contribute to other assessment processes within the School as needed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities. Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential:

• Postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area.

• Professional registration

Desirable:

• PGCertHE teaching qualification or equivalent.

• PhD, or near to completion.

Experience/Knowledge - Teaching

Essential:

• A sound knowledge of contemporary policy and practice in nursing and healthcare.

• Evidence of teaching in clinical or academic settings.

Desirable:

• Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.

• Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.

Experience/Knowledge – Scholarship

Essential:

• Capability to develop and manage projects, and to disseminate results through presentation at relevant conferences, publication in relevant journals, social and other media.

Desirable:

• Capability to publish scholarship in peer-reviewed journals of international standard, conferences, social and other media.

Skills/Abilities

Essential:

• Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.

• Excellent verbal and written skills.

• Demonstrable computer skills, including MS Office, Powerpoint, Excel. This could also include use of Blackboard and other on-line learning platforms.
