The School of Health Sciences is an interprofessional school which sits within the College of Medical and Human Sciences and provides medical, health and care education and research at Bangor University. The School works in partnership with health, social and educational care providers through well established links to enable a total clinical and academic experience to be provided for Mental Health nursing students. The School offers a career-spanning portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and short courses for health and care and allied professionals. The School comprises over 150 staff, delivering to more than 1000 students from across the health professions. The School’s portfolio of professional programmes continues to expand, with new programmes in Dental Hygiene and distance learning for the Bachelor of Nursing. We hold an Athena Swan Bronze award in recognition of our commitment to and progress towards gender equality within the University's policies, practices, and culture.

Purpose of the Job
- To teach Mental Health nursing at undergraduate and postgraduate) levels, including supervision of students as they complete formative and summative assessments.
- To develop ways of teaching to include blended and in person approaches, teaching materials and assessment.
- To support module and course design, assessments and develop skills for module co-ordination and module leadership module coordinator.
- To provide the highest quality pastoral and academic support to Mental Health nursing undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- To undertake administrative duties as designated by the Head of School to engage in School citizenship and personal development.

Main

**Responsibilities**:
Teaching duties will include:

- Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
- Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.
- Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments in Mental Health nursing.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
- Be personal tutor to a number of undergraduate (and postgraduate students), providing the highest quality, consistent, advice, guidance and support.
- Contribute to the development of new programmes and undertaking role of module coordinator or contributing to module co-ordination.
- Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies. - Publish and share evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.
- Ensure adherence to organisational and professional body (i.e. NMC) requirements in all aspects of academic work, and in personal professional development.
- Engage in scholarly, professional and improvement-related activities around Mental Health nursing and nursing education in partnership with students, local stakeholders and service users.
- Contribute to the growth and improvement of the practice learning circuit capacity and quality, and support students’ learning in practice.
- Actively engage in strategic and project-related activities that maximise student engagement, and that mitigate the risks of attrition.
- Lead the development of new modules, and the re-design and improvement of existing modules.

Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:

- Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g. School and University Open Days).
- To contribute to the promotion and external profile of the School. (grade 8).
- Contribute to the School's management and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures (if module co-ordinator).
- Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.
- Undertake an active role in mentoring less experienced members of staff within the College/School.
