The Role
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic PDRA to develop biomaterials processing and tissue engineering strategies which exploit the capabilities of a novel bioprinting system developed at Newcastle.
The appointment is for 1 year initially.
You should hold a PhD (or be nearing completion) in tissue engineering, biomaterials, biofabrication or bioengineering.
Key Accountabilities
The appointee will work collaboratively with researchers, technical staff and wider group members under the supervision of Professor Kenny Dalgarno, Dr Ana Ferreira-Duarte, and Dr Piergiorgio Gentile, and will also collaborate with Dr Fiona Oakley and Professor Derek Mann in the Medical School
The successful applicant will research and develop biomaterials processing and tissue engineering strategies using a novel bioprinting process (reactive jet impingement), working as part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers
The appointee will have to effectively communicate research results to colleagues, industrial partners, and to the wider research community through conference presentations and journal papers
The appointee will take a role in the general management and running of the biofabrication laboratory
The Person
Knowledge (inc. qualifications)
Understanding and experience of cell culture
Desirable
Understanding and experience of the processing and characterisation of hydrogels
Understanding and experience of electrospinning
Understanding and experience of tissue engineering
Skills (professional, technical, managerial, practical)
Ability to carry out original research
Ability to write research journal papers
Ability to communicate and present the research outcomes in front of academic and industrial colleagues
Excellent written and oral English language skills
Effective time management and an ability to work to deadlines
