Regimental Headquarters is based in The Castle, Edinburgh, EH1 2YT. The Regiment consists of three regular battalions, two reserve battalions and a regular incremental company based across Scotland and in the Regimental Headquarters, The Royal Regiment of Scotland is a forward leaning, dynamic and output driven organisation committed to supporting the wider Regimental family. The wellbeing of our veterans is an important facet of our organisation. Effective communications and enabling comradeship, is essential to achieve this output. Another key output of the headquarters is keeping our Cadet Battalions connected to the Regiment through planned engagement and supporting cadet activities.

We are looking for a self-starter who possesses the skills to deliver the required objectives. That person should be able to empathise with veterans and possess a good understanding of what is a veteran and their needs. That person will have excellent communication skills, be able to use their initiative, possess the ability to plan and execute activities to a high standard. They will engage effectively with strategic, operational, and tactical stakeholders.

Further, we would like the post holder to lead on all Regimental veterans’ events and will coordinate all support to cadet activities. They will establish positive, collaborative relationships with veteran organisations that provide crucial support.

Regimental Headquarters is based in The Castle, Edinburgh, EH1 2YT. The Regiment consists of three regular battalions, two reserve battalions and a regular incremental company based across Scotland and in the North of England. The Regiment has many veterans who are supported by the headquarters through the SCOTS Association and its Battalion and Regional branches.

The job is offered at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
he Headquarters consist of a SEO Regimental Secretary with Business Support, Digitalization & Information Management, Engagement and Communications, Heritage, Welfare and Veterans departments each headed up by a HEO. This position line manages one member of staff and is line managed by the Regimental Secretary.

The headquarters role is to provide support to all SCOTS soldiers and their families, whether they are serving or retired. This post would suit a person who relishes a challenge, can work autonomously, and has the vision to raise the level of support we provide to our veterans. An eye for detail is needed as is the requirement to forward plan. We need you to possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will need a flexible approach to meeting your outputs; be prepared to work very occasional evening hours and occasional weekends when and if required. Time off in lieu will be available to compensate for these periods.

Prior Regimental or Army background knowledge and understanding the broader MOD Army structure would be helpful but is not crucial. Proficiency in the skills required for the post are far more important.

This post has the following main responsibilities:

- To write and assist in the delivery of the SCOTS Association plan to support the SCOTS Association strategy.
- Plan and deliver the growth of the Association, its branches and members.
- Plan and deliver Association events and activities to support the wellbeing and comradeship of its members.
- Be the focal point for all external veteran agencies and charities.
- Manage the veterans’ budget within the Regimental Trust.
- The lead on all means of communication to veterans (print, digital and social media) and supporting networks.
- Secretary of the SCOTS Association.
- Engage with the Regional Forces Cadet Association to foster relations between SCOTS cadets and the regular / reserve Battalions.
- Plan and support the delivery of Regimental support to cadet activities.

All staff members have a duty to co-operate with their Line Manager and to take reasonable care of their own health & safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

The person selected will be confident, outgoing and able to work collegiately with people of all grades. They will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to advise and influence key opinion formers. To be credible, they will have the knowledge and experience to manage veteran related matters
