**Job summary**:

They will lead our engagement strategy and delivery through personal interaction and coordination with all stakeholders. Further, the postholder will lead on all Regimental communications and will be required to establish positive, collaborative relationships with those organisations that support us.

Regimental Headquarters is based in The Castle, Edinburgh, EH1 2YT. The Regiment consists of three regular battalions, two reserve battalions and a regular incremental company based across Scotland and in the North of England. The Regiment has many veterans who are supported by the headquarters through the SCOTS Association and its branches.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The Headquarters consist of a SEO Regimental Secretary with Business Support, Digitalization & Information Management, Engagement and Communications, Heritage, Welfare and Veterans departments each headed up by a HEO. This position line manages one member of staff and is line managed by the Regimental Secretary.

Our focus is to provide support to all SCOTS soldiers and their families, whether they are serving or retired. This post would suit a person who relishes a challenge and is adapt at planning and coordinating multiple engagement events simultaneously. At the same time, they will meet the communications requirements, including social media, the latter often at short notice. An eye for detail is needed as is the requirement to forward plan. We need you to possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will need a flexible approach to meeting your outputs; be prepared to work very occasional evening hours and occasional weekends when and if required. Time off in lieu will be available to compensate for these periods.

Prior Regimental or Army background knowledge and understanding the broader MOD Army structure would be helpful but is not crucial. Proficiency in the skills required for the post are more important.

**This post has the following mains responsibilities**:
To devise and execute the Engagement Activity Plan. To run the engagement budget and to be an active member of the 'Engage Well' delivery team. To be the department lead on the organisation of engagement events with supporting partners. We need you to be able to exert influence through the Regimental 'eco-system' including Shire / Town Councils and Sheriffs, Lord Lieutenants, MP/MSP’s, Clubs and organisations and public service groups to improve the Regimental Brand. To ensure Army wide communication and media policy (including digital) is adhered to across the Regiment, including governance of our corporate social media platforms, our website and 'the 'SCOTS App.

To be involved in our contribution to Defensive News Briefs (DNB); which include factual and relevant detail, Q&As and Lines to Take (LTT) for the internal Army Media (media press officers) audience.

To be active in the preparation of News Notes for external use (that go to the Local Authority, external media, social media platforms etc) - including key messages and social media messaging. To brief and advise the Regimental Secretary on communication/branding matters. To conduct full engagement with Battalion Unit Communications Officers and the Infantry Engagement Team to ensure all fully understand their communications requirement, delineation of responsibility, key messages and mentoring where required. To chair of the SCOTS Unit Communications Officers quarterly meetings. To be the Media Liaison Officer and Defence Communicator Qualified (Can be trained in post). To produce the annual SCOTS Association Journal and the SCOTS quarterly newsletter. To identify stories and events that will promote the Regiment.
