We act as the British Army's liaison with the Devolved Administration, the Scottish populace, and the Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland. Furthermore, we extend staff support to the General Officer Scotland (GOS) to fulfill the Army's needs in Defence and to showcase the significance of the British Army in Scotland (BAS), its institutions, communities, and personnel.

Role Purpose

This is a unique opportunity for individuals eager to contribute to the Civil Service Operational Delivery Profession, facilitating the Army's objectives. Located at the HQ in Redford Cavalry Barracks, Edinburgh, you will collaborate with colleagues from Human Resources, Finance, and Commercial sectors to ensure strategic planning, management, and execution of all corporate workforce and business services. This support is essential for the Brigade Commander and Regional Command Senior Business Manager in fulfilling their delegated duties and outputs.

As a seasoned business manager leading a small team of Civil Servants, your role will encompass:

  • Strategic workforce and resource planning, including oversight of financial management to align with the Brigade’s Command Plan, supporting workforce transformation and efficiency initiatives.
  • Providing workforce advice and guidance to enhance employee engagement, attendance, and performance while fostering talent development.
  • Managing workforce financial governance, assurance, and compliance, supporting executive-level boards and performance reporting through insights and Management Information (MI).
  • Enhancing workplace culture and the lived experience of employees, focusing on performance management and recognition processes.
  • Implementing structured change management methodologies to drive continuous improvement and excellence in business services.
  • Acting as the Lead Civil Servant, advocating for the civilian workforce's interests, ensuring effective communication, and championing their contributions to Brigade outputs.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a confident, innovative leader with a proven track record of success and strong skills across various domains. You will excel in building effective relationships with both Civilian and Military personnel, as well as external stakeholders. Your ability to provide reliable guidance and support will be crucial in this dynamic environment.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven ability to navigate uncertainty and engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience in coordinating multiple workstreams and adapting business and resource planning as necessary.
  • Strategic thinking capabilities to anticipate and resolve potential issues proactively.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving continuous improvements in business processes or services.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and manage unexpected demands efficiently.
  • Leadership experience to support and motivate a team, fostering a positive work culture.

Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, the Ministry of Defence offers substantial contributions towards your Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. The Army is committed to being a supportive employer, promoting flexible working arrangements to help maintain a healthy work/life balance.

Additional benefits include:

  • 25 days of paid annual leave, increasing to 30 days after five years of service.
