We are seeking to appoint a Research Governance Officer to support the Plymouth Health Determinants Research Collaboration. Your employment contract will be with the University of Plymouth, but your primary work base will be at Plymouth City Council, where you will hold an honorary contract and have an assigned workspace. Some remote working will be possible. You will also have access to and be supported by colleagues in the Community and Primary Care Research Group.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to establish, develop and deliver on-going assurance of research governance policy and processes, within the new NIHR funded Plymouth Health Determinants Research Collaboration (PHDRC). The aim of the PHDRC is to develop a research culture and skills across Plymouth City Council and its partners to inform policy and decision-making that reduces health inequalities. We are also committed to producing knowledge for use locally and of value nationally, especially for similar coastal communities. This critically important and essential post will ensure that a robust research governance and ethical approval process is in place, without which such research cannot be undertaken.

You will have a good understanding and knowledge of ethical research practice and experience with research ethics systems within health, social care, and/or local authority settings. You will have an appreciation of the complexities around research ethics and the need to develop a vigorous, yet proportionate, approach which is adaptive to a range of research methods and practices ranging from RCTs to participatory action research. You will be a highly motivated and reflective individual willing to work collaboratively with others to develop and establish a robust and proportionate research ethics system/service.

This is a part-time position working 18.5 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until 30 September 2027 due to funding.
