London, United Kingdom Lewisham Council Full time

Job Ref: CED-22-040
, 35 hours per week
Closing Date: Sunday 12th March 2023, 11:59pm
Contract Type: Permanent

**Salary**: £35,223 - £36,417 per annum (SO1)

Lewisham Council is looking to recruit a dynamic Executive Support Officer to our Executive Support Team. This team plays a key role in helping the Council to modernise its services and functions, in response to the ever-changing needs of our diverse community.

**The role**

Executive Support is based in the Communications and Engagement Division. The Executive Support Officer post will report to the Chief Executive’s Office Manager and support the senior officers in the Chief Executive’s Directorate.

This role will work closely with senior managers including: the Chief Executive, Executive Directors, Service Directors, and Heads of Service. In addition, the role will engage with elected Councillors, including Members of the Cabinet and Scrutiny and liaise with a wide range of external stakeholders.

The primary function of the role will be to provide high quality support to the Council’s senior leadership team. This will include performing a diverse range of day-to-day tasks including: minuting key meetings, organising multi-stakeholder events, diary management and managing the Directorate business cycle. It will also include undertaking research as well as drafting text for policy briefings, responses to Council Questions and formal reports.

**Location**

Whilst the service is primarily based in Laurence House, we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis. You may also be required to work at or from any other buildings/locations.

**What we are looking for**

We’re ambitious for Lewisham - our borough is a hidden gem in inner south east London. We’re proud of our diversity and we work hard to end inequalities; we are a Borough of Sanctuary with a history of welcoming migrants and refugees; we’re also a hotbed of arts and creativity, having just completed our year as London Borough of Culture.

We’re facing huge challenges, including the housing crisis, increasing pressure on public services and the cost-of-living crisis. The coming months will be exceptionally challenging for the Council, our residents and local businesses.

Our council is changing fast, with a new executive team and ever changing demands and pressures on our public services. These posts will play a key role in supporting the Council to meet our priorities and provide the best possible services and opportunities for our residents and staff.

You will be supporting senior managers across a diverse range of services and functions and will need to be highly adaptable and able to quickly develop an understanding of the needs of services you are working with. You will be able to anticipate the needs of senior managers, weigh up risks and provide timely advice.

You will work with sensitive information, and will be expected to demonstrate a high degree of tact, diplomacy and professional integrity.

In return, we’ll offer excellent development opportunities, plus a range of benefits that includes a career average pension scheme, flexible working and the opportunity to make a real difference to our local community.
