York, United Kingdom Graduate Students' Association Full time

**The Graduate Students’ Association (GSA)**:
It's a great time to join the GSA; we are currently undergoing consultation with students in the expectation that we will form a single Union with YUSU (the other Student Union at the University of York) in 2024 to help provide enhanced support for all students.

Established in 1965, the GSAis an independent charity and one of the UK’s only dedicated postgraduate unions. We represent over 7,000 postgraduate students at the University of York and exist to be their champion: helping our members form strong communities, giving them support and advice when they need it, and advocating on their behalf to ensure every postgraduate student and researcher at York has a great experience.

Our membership is diverse and expanding quickly. Our students are all over 21, most are returning to education, and well over half come from outside the UK. We also have a growing community of distance and part-time learners. We provide a wide range of evolving services and support to meet the changing needs of our membership through the leadership of our three elected sabbatical officers

The GSA trains and supports academic representatives and other volunteers to make changes to their course and to the University, we provide a platform for students to campaign on the issues that matter for them, we help members with their welfare and offer academic advice when they need it most, and we bring people together with a comprehensive calendar of events and trips including the UK’s largest dedicated postgraduate welcome week, free sports sessions, and student-led networks.

**Working Arrangements**

Working hours will be agreed between the Coordinator(s) appointed and the Digital Communications and Events Manager. Due to the nature of the role, working hours may exceed 14.8 or 29.6 as business needs fluctuate and the role will involve some evening and weekend work We offer Time Owed in Lieu in these circumstances

Applicants must be available for the month of September to help with Welcome and Network weeks and additional hours will be needed at this time which can then be claimed back.

**Purpose**:
As part of a small dedicated team, the new Events and Communications Coordinator(s) will be responsible for developing and implementing a wide range of GSA’s core events & activities provision, whilst equally supporting our communications outputs and helping ensure we create high awareness content that can really connect with our postgraduate members. We are aiming for a greater emphasis on student engagement and improved outreach to the student body.

Reporting to the Digital Communications and Events Manager, these roles provide an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact for the benefit of all our members.

- To support in developing the GSA’s online and on campus presence with our postgraduate members through the use of a diverse range of communications including but not limited to; social media, newsletters, and other marketing opportunities

**Events**
