We are a national Non-Medical Help Provider supporting university students who are in receipt of DSA (Disabled Student Allowances).
We believe in fighting inequality by helping people develop and learn. Education is a valuable life experience that can and should be made more accessible to people who have barriers to learning resulting from a disability, mental health condition, specific learning difficulty or neurodivergence. The specialist support workers we work with are highly qualified and provide professional, friendly, personalised, one-to-one support to higher education students to help them address their barriers to learning.

**About the role**:
Mulberry Education is expanding our team of self-employed, freelance Specialist Mental Health Mentors to work with students in person at the **University of Winchester**. We are also interested in people who could meet students at the other nearby universities: the University of Southampton, Southampton Solent University, and the University of Portsmouth.
At this time, **we are specifically looking for people who** **could meet the students in-person** rather than only providing support remotely.
**Roles and Responsibilities**:
- Work with university students on a one-to-one basis to provide personalised specialist support that will help reduce the impact of their mental health condition on their academic work and university life.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with us within Mulberry Education and also, when appropriate, with colleagues in the university Disability Advisor team.
- Maintain accurate and secure digital records in line with Mulberry Education's and the Department for Education's requirements.
- Be responsible for their own timetable and be proactive in helping students to engage with their support.
**About you**:
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in supporting people with mental health conditions that have substantial impacts on their lives. This experience does not necessarily need to be with adult learners.
- Has a good understanding of the requirements of academic work at university level.
- Has excellent verbal and written communication.
- Meets the essential criteria for the Specialist Mental Health Mentor role mandated by the Department for Education as detailed below.
**Essential requirements**:
A Specialist Mental Health Mentor requires membership of one of the following professional bodies:
- Addiction Professionals - National Counsellor Accreditation Certificate (NCAC)
- Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) - Full membership
- Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions - Accredited or Registered Counsellor
- The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) - Full Accredited membership
- The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) - Registered Member (MBACP) or Accredited Member (MBACP - Accred)
- British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) - Registrant
- British Psychological Society (BPS) - Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWP), Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP), Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology (CAAP), Scotland Clinical Associates in Psychology (CAP), BPS Chartered Member (CPsychol), or BPS Graduate member (GMBPsS) with a postgraduate mental health qualification.
- Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA) - Accredited (Other UK Professional body) Counsellor/Psychotherapist Member of COSCA membership
- General Medical Council (GMC) - Psychiatry - Full Registration
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) - Arts Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Practitioner Psychologist
- International Society of Psychotherapy and Counselling (ISPC) - Accredited or Fellow membership
- Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) - Accredited membership
- National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) - Accredited Registrant (MNCPS Acc), Accredited Professional Registrant (PNCPS Prof Acc), Senior Accredited Registrant status (SNCPS Snr Acc)
- Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) - Mental Health Nurse, Community Mental Health Nurse, Psychiatric Nurse
- Social Work England (SWE) - Social Worker
- Social Care Wales (SCW) - Social Worker
- Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) - Social Worker
- UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) - Full clinical membership
- The University Mental Health Advisers Network (UMHAN) - Accredited Practitioner membership
