Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and empathetic Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team at Northwestern Community Services Board. In this role, you will provide peer support services to individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorder, promoting their recovery and resiliency through non-clinical group and individual sessions.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have lived experience of recovery from mental illness and/or substance use disorder, with at least 1 year of psychiatric stability and/or sobriety. You will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and connect individuals with resources, opportunities, and communities of support.
  • Teach skills and provide practical assistance to promote wellness and recovery.
  • Facilitate non-clinical group and individual sessions to achieve measurable and personalized goals.
Requirements
  • Lived experience of recovery from mental illness and/or substance use disorder.
  • Completion of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services 72-hour peer-support training.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
