**Job overview**:
To provide information, training and instruction to staff that carry out client related moving and handling risk assessments as the need arises. Staff include those employed by the NHS/OMBC or who are commissioned to provide services on their behalf, or for services user on direct payments or Individualised budgets.

To work closely with the OMBC Reviewing Team in relation to moving and handling.

To undertake complex client related manual handling assessments in support of such staff.

To provide ‘best practice’ advice to managers of community focused health and social care services.

Significant NHS experience is essential for the role as well as a good understanding of reduced carer handling. Access to transport is also essential as this is a community-based role.

**Main duties of the job**:
Deliver training programmes that have been developed in conjunction with the Trust Moving and Handling Co-ordinator, in client related moving and transferring, risk assessments and the appropriate commissioning of equipment, to social care and community-based health care staff.

Provide information, training and instruction to community focused health and social care staff to enable them to carry out competent moving and handling risk assessments, and to commission equipment to enact risk plans accordingly.

Carry out complex client related moving and handling risk assessments as appropriate. Maintain competence and capability with current Moving and Handling requirements.

Undertake monitoring and audits of moving and handling risk assessments.

Day to day supervision and allocation of work for the Moving and Handling Assistant (employed by OMBC) and liaison with OMBC about human resource issues.

Involvement when requested by Northern Care Alliance/OMBC Safeguarding Teams to investigate and advise on safeguarding issues pertaining to Moving and Handling concerns.

Liaise with Trust Moving and Handling Co-ordinator to ensure consistency of practice across the Trust.

Ensure a consistent approach to risk management of client Moving and Handling issues.

Contribute to other Trust strategies to improve the core of service users. Post holder must be able to work flexibly and working pattern may include some evenings and weekends.

- Must hold a degree/diploma Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or Nursing.

**Desirable criteria**:

- Recognised post grad qualification in manual handling and/or teaching.
- Teaching or training or group work experience and/or qualification.

**Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Demonstrate experience working in the physical disability field in health/social care.
- Demonstrate significant moving and handling experience in community/acute settings in the fields of physical ill health or physical disability.
- Knowledge of moving and handling equipment
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and of implications of manual handling operations regulations in patient care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
