Speech and Language Therapy Support Worker

An exciting new opportunity is available for a Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join the team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital to undertake a Speech and Language Therapy Apprenticeship. The role is based within all areas of the Speech and Language Therapy team. These are: Medicine, Surgery/ICU, Orthopaedics, Respiratory, Elderly Care and cross cover as required to Acute Stroke/Neurorehabilitation Unit.
You will work as part of a dynamic and supportive team, where staff uphold the Trust values in all aspects of their job roles.
In addition, you will undertake a BSc Speech and Language Therapy Apprenticeship, due to start in January 2025 and expected to be at Birmingham City University.
The successful applicant will have NHS experience as an SLT Assistant and be competent in basic assessment, treatment and teaching skills. You will have sound IT skills and demonstrate the Trust’s values of Compassion, Aspiration, Resourcefulness and Excellence.
Regular appraisal, supervision and support will be given and there is a requirement to actively participate in the development of your peers.
The Speech and Language Therapy Service at the Royal Berkshire Hospital is a group of 15 SLT's, 4 support workers and an administrator covering acute medicine, acute stroke, neurological rehab, ENT and ICU as well as our enthusiastic and knowledgeable Head and Neck Cancer team.
Well respected across the Trust with award winning Leadership we are dedicated to providing a supportive and friendly work environment, prioritising team well-being and clinical development. We have established support worker roles in our stroke and neuro rehab service and link in with support workers across the region for additional support and learning.
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest District General Hospitals in the country. The hospital achieved Foundation Trust status on 1st June 2006. It was the first Foundation Trust in the South Central Strategic Health Authority. The Trust has a successful track record of delivering high quality acute medical and surgical services for 500,000 patients across West Berkshire, an area extending from Newbury in the west to Henley-on-Thames in the east, and including Wokingham and parts of Hampshire to the south and parts of Oxfordshire to the north.
