Job Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated individual to join our dynamic Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) team in a newly created role. This position is essential in enhancing our acute SLT services and will involve a diverse range of responsibilities.

As a Speech and Language Therapy Support Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting the SLT team with various administrative and clinical tasks. Your responsibilities will include gathering patient background information, coordinating with community services, and implementing therapy programs and assessment activities designed by our qualified SLT professionals.

You will collaborate with two other support specialists within the service, focusing on Neuro and Head and Neck Cancer patients, alongside a skilled and welcoming SLT team and our exceptional administrative staff.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct designated patient assessments in collaboration with qualified speech and language therapists.
  • Independently execute specific tasks for individual or groups of patients as part of their treatment and rehabilitation plans, including computer-based therapy and group sessions.
  • Provide care for patients with swallowing difficulties as directed by speech and language therapists.
  • Communicate effectively with the SLT team and other multidisciplinary members regarding any changes in patient conditions or relevant information.
  • Prepare therapy materials, patient history documents, and low-tech communication aids under the guidance of speech and language therapists.
  • Deliver and receive information with tact and sensitivity, particularly when interacting with patients.
  • Implement treatment interventions, assess results, and relay progress or outcomes to qualified therapists.
  • Ensure patient understanding of treatment proposals, obtain valid informed consent, and work within legal frameworks for patients who may lack capacity to consent.
  • Maintain knowledge of various communication disorders, including dysarthria and dyspraxia.
  • Provide information on supportive agencies available to patients to enhance their recovery.
