Job Overview

In light of a recent internal service transformation, we are excited to announce an opportunity for a dynamic role within our acute Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service.

The successful candidate will engage in a diverse range of responsibilities, assisting the acute SLT team with various administrative and clinical tasks. This includes gathering essential background information, collaborating with community services, and executing face-to-face therapy programs and assessment activities as designed by the SLT professionals.

You will join a team of two additional SLT Assistants within the service, focusing on Neuro and Head and Neck Cancer, alongside a supportive and experienced SLT team and our dedicated administrative staff.

Job Duties

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct designated patient assessments in collaboration with qualified speech and language therapists.
  • Independently perform specific tasks for individual patients or groups as part of their treatment and rehabilitation plans, including computer-based therapy and group sessions.
  • If necessary, work with patients experiencing dysphagia under the guidance of speech and language therapists.
  • Effectively communicate with speech and language therapists and other members of the multidisciplinary team regarding any changes in patients' conditions or other pertinent information.
  • Prepare therapy materials, personal history books, and low-tech communication aids under the direction of speech and language therapists.
  • Provide and receive information with tact, sensitivity, and diplomacy, particularly when interacting with patients.
  • Implement treatment interventions, assess outcomes, and relay progress to qualified therapists.
  • Ensure patients understand treatment proposals, obtain valid informed consent, and work within legal frameworks for patients who may lack the capacity to consent.
  • Maintain knowledge of various communication disorders, including dysarthria and dyspraxia.
  • Provide information on supportive agencies available to patients to enhance their recovery.
