**Research Associate**: £32,348 to £42,155 per annum

The Role

An exciting opportunity for a knowledge exchange professional to work at the interface between the NIHR Public Health Intervention Responsive Studies Team (PHIRST Fusion) academic work programme and a wide range of policy and practice partner organisations in the field of public health. PHIRST Fusion is a collaboration between Fuse, Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Sheffield and Queens University Belfast. The post holder will perform the role of Knowledge Exchange Broker (KEB) and will work across Local Government to broker selected intervention evaluations, which have been approved as potentially eligible projects by the NIHR Public Health Research programme.

You will have substantial, relevant experience in public health research or evaluation and its translation into effective policy and practice; Knowledge and experience of work in or with local government, an understanding of evidence-informed public health practice and policy development, and the knowledge brokerage function.

You will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a range of different stakeholders and at different levels. You will also have strong persuasion and influencing skills to achieve consensus and secure engagement of stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities
Engage relevant stakeholders across other Local Government departments and external partnerships (e.g. voluntary and community organisations, housing organisations, commercial partners) to clarify the scope of the research which will be guided by the initial intervention and evaluation ideas approved by the NIHR PHR Programme
Use opportunities provided by working with Local Government on developing research projects to build capacity and support local government colleagues to ensure they have the skills they need to engage in the research and to use practical evaluation methods, working closely with the embedded practitioner in each locality (where feasible)
Take a leading role in developing the knowledge mobilisation plan for each project and expanding knowledge exchange activities amongst the PHIRST (e.g. networking initiatives, brokerage events, training programmes, etc.), working with the senior management group, partner Universities and their policy and practice partners
Guide knowledge mobilisation activities throughout the research projects, including the promotion of research briefs, video and animation, infographics, dialogue events and social media
Support continuous improvement by following up with Local Government upon the completion of projects to ensure the implementation and sharing of learning and help to address any feedback to refine and improve processes
Take responsibility for maintaining existing links and developing new relationships with policy-makers and practitioners working in Local Government and other agencies across England
Contribute to publications in coproduction with Local Government and PHIRST members related to the evaluations and in e.g. building capacity, culture and infrastructure for research impact)
Provide advice and expertise in research and knowledge exchange and keep abreast of developments in this field
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Knowledge and experience of work in local government
