The Role

We are looking to appoint a Research Assistant to support an NIHR School for Social Care funded study on Bathing Adaptations in the Homes of Older Adults - The BATH-OUT-2 Trial. This study is taking place across local authorities in England. This post will involve data collection with older adults, primarily over the telephone, although some local and national travel may be required.

The main purpose of the post is to work as an integral part of the ‘BATH-OUT-2’ project team, which is conducting a Randomised Controlled Trial of expedited versus routine provision of bathing adaptations. The project is a collaboration between Newcastle University, Northumbria University, University of York, University of Nottingham, and local authorities and focuses on the impact of bathing adaptations for older adults.

This is a part time post (0.5 FTE), fixed term until 31 October 2023, with the potential for a further extension.

Key Accountabilities
Help plan and conduct the research, supported by senior team members
Recruit older adults to take part in the study involving screening potential participants against eligibility criteria, providing information and study explanations and completing the informed consent process
Support the collection of data by completing a range of assessments with participants at baseline and follow-up time points
Accurately maintain all databases required for the project
Work collaboratively with other partners and stakeholders within and connected to the project group
Support public involvement activity in the project
Document research output, including, analysis and interpretation of data, maintaining records, drafting progress reports and papers as appropriate
Contribute to the production of high quality outputs from research activity including (but not limited to) publications for peer reviewed journals, publicity materials and reports, website content
Be aware of, and comply with, current data protection legislation regarding data collection, analysis, reporting and storage.

The Person - Essential

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
An understanding of conducting research in a health and social care setting
Demonstrable understanding of clinical study design and/or evaluation methods
Ability to build effective relationships with a range of different stakeholders, across different levels
Evidence of potential to write for peer reviewed publications and present findings at conferences
Ability to communicate effectively and confidently to a range of audiences and stakeholders
Evidence of the ability to deliver high-quality work within agreed timelines
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritise and to manage conflicting priorities
Aptitude to work flexibly and cooperatively with others
Experience of working with older adults and / or users of social care services, including those who lack mental capacity (Desirable)
Experience of undertaking literature searching and data monitoring (Desirable)
Advanced Excel skills including complex data queries and advanced functions (e.g. macros) (Desirable)

**Qualifications**:
An MSc or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant topic area, such as health and social care
