The Role

We are looking for an experienced researcher to bring their skills in functional genomics to our project: “Identifying new treatment options in therapy resistant Burkitt lymphoma”. The main aims of the project are to further develop in vitro co-culture of patient-derived lymphoma cells and use them to conduct a genome-wide CRISPR screen. Our aim is to identify the key molecular pathways that are dysregulated in Burkitt lymphoma and prioritise them for therapeutic targeting.

You will work within the Lymphoma Research Group at the Wolfson Childhood Cancer Research Centre under the direct supervision of Dr Simon Bomken. Whilst you will have experience of cell culture and retro-/lentiviral transduction, support and training will be given in whole genome screening. If you choose, there will be the opportunity to train and develop skills in bioinformatics analysis of CRISPR screen and transcriptomic data. Animal research training and experience will also be provided if required. This opportunity will appeal to a motivated researcher looking to develop their knowledge and skills in functional genomics, target identification and pre-clinical validation.

Key Accountabilities
Although working under the general guidance of an academic Principal Investigator with advice and support where required, the appointee should:

- Determine appropriate methodologies for the research
- Design and perform laboratory experiments
- Interpret research data in the context of existing knowledge
- Contribute with new ideas, providing substantial ‘added value’
- Take a lead role in writing up their research and drive its wider dissemination
- Develop their own research objectives and proposals for future funding
- Participate in the supervision of Undergraduate and Masters research projects and providing support to Postgraduate research students and other laboratory members
- Contribute to events encouraging public engagement in science and supporting fundraising activities

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience of in vitro cell culture, ideally including more advanced systems such as co-culture, organoid culture etc
- Experience of cloning, plasmid propagation and retro-/lentivirus production
- Good understanding of functional genomic technologies, ideally with experience of CRISPR gene editing
- Experience of conducting flow cytometry independently
- Good understanding of methodologies to validate a potential drug target
- Interest in developing pre-clinical animal research experience

**Qualifications**:

- A relevant PhD or equivalent professional / higher education qualification (for Research Associate)
- Be in the process of submitting a PhD thesis for examination within the next 6 months (for Research Assistant)
