The Role
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher with a background in nutrition research and experience of analysis of diet-disease links, with a focus on cancer. You will join a team setting up a cohort study to explore relationships between diet, physical activity, and cancer recurrence. Proven track record in analysis of dietary records, in involvement in trial management, and in preparation of publications would be an advantage.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career working across a range of different projects within different teams. You will be supported to develop their own funding bids in the topic area working towards an independent fellowship in nutrition and cancer.

Key Accountabilities
- Work with Professor Bernard Corfe and colleagues within Newcastle University Hunan Nutrition and Exercise Research Centre and the Colocohort research team (both within the Faculty of Medical Sciences) to develop and deliver a range of nutrition and cancer research projects
- Be part of a multidisciplinary teams working across different clinical specialties and to contribute to the design, conduct and dissemination of research
- Carry out research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and to a high standard
- Attend meetings and other events appropriate to the projects
- Prepare papers for publication, and disseminate findings at conferences as required
- Identify and undertake a programme of professional development, including relevant further training in additional research methods and other transferable skills
- Carry out administrative tasks and other duties to support nutrition within the Institute as required, including supporting undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects
- May be involved in the supervision, with guidance, of final year undergraduate research projects and in providing support to postgraduate research students or Research Assistants
- Will need to work with the support staff and, on occasions, with undergraduate and postgraduate students, and interact intellectually with other academic members of the Institute
- May contribute to events celebrating the public engagement of science/social sciences/humanities
- Develop an awareness of University structures, policies and procedures and relevant issues in the higher education, research, social and political environment
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of the design, management, conduct and reporting of nutrition research studies, analysis of cohort data and exploration of diet-disease links
- Knowledge and experience of working and as part of multidisciplinary research teams
- Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrable ability to work in a range of education settings and situations
- Evidence of delivering research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and producing research to a high standard
- Evidence of successfully writing for peer reviewed publications, understanding the publication process
- Track record of presenting findings at conferences, and to lay audiences
- Knowledge of relevant qualitative research software packages, for example, but not limited to, SPSS, FETA
