The team/ department
Corporate Governance Division is a busy and dynamic division working at the centre of the FCA, led by the Company Secretary. Our objective is to provide a highly professional range of secretariat, policy, economic and legal services across a wide range of functions to our stakeholders.
The division's key responsibilities include providing support and advice to the FCA Board and the Independent Panels (Panels); and supporting the Regulatory Decisions Committee (RDC).
We’re recruiting for a Policy Adviser to support the Financial Services Consumer Panel (FSCP). This role would suit a talented and ambitious individual who wants to develop and broaden their policy knowledge and skills and who is comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders across the FCA.
The FCA consults the Panels on a confidential basis, and at an early stage, to help them understand the impact of their proposals on consumers and more widely. The FSCP provides external input on our policies and practices from the consumer perspective and conducts independent research. More information on the Panels and its current members is available at
The post-holder will work alongside other members of the team to provide policy advice and professional support to the FSCP, to enable them to contribute high-quality and timely input to the FCA’s policy development and implementation. They will proactively manage relationships with key stakeholders, including senior business leaders and senior executives within the FCA, and the relationship between the Panels and the FCA.
What you will be doing (the role)- Analysing and evaluating policy issues and drafting feedback from the FSCP to the FCA, including the FCA Board and responses to consultations, and other reports by the FSCP- Liaising with key FCA stakeholders, to ensure that the FSCP’s work reflects its strategic priorities and the FCA’s policy work programme- Identifying and researching potential UK and international policy issues relevant to the FCA’s objectives and drawing them to the attention of the FSCP in the most appropriate way- Managing and steering panel research projects on specific policy issues in the consumer interest- Supporting formal and informal panel meetings, including providing meeting notes and minutes as necessary- Liaising with key external contacts (such as consumer groups, Government Departments, other regulators, financial services firms, etc.) to make sure the FSCP understands the challenges facing financial services consumers

The skills and experience you will have
Minimum- Proven experience gained in a regulatory and/or policy role- Demonstrable experience of strong stakeholder management skills engaging at a senior level- Able to demonstrate excellent planning and prioritisation of issues
Essential- Ability to produce clear and concise papers- Understanding of the impact of regulation and how it affects consumers- Team player who displays strong team spirit and is able to work well with others to achieve goals- The professional credibility and gravitas to be able to deal with a broad spectrum of stakeholders- Proven written and verbal communication skills and commitment to perform to high standards- Ability to challenge appropriately- A thorough and methodical approach- Project management skills and experience
