**Judicial Office**

The Judicial Office is an arm’s length body of the Ministry of Justice. We are a unique branch of the civil service, dedicated to supporting the judiciary and promoting judicial independence, to maintain confidence in the rule of law. We help the Lord Chief Justice and the Senior President of Tribunals fulfil their responsibilities to the judiciary, in an ever-evolving justice system. We provide operational support, policy, legal and handling advice through a number of specialist teams.

The Judicial Office was established following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005, to support the Lord Chief Justice as Head of the Judiciary in his statutory, and other leadership and administrative, functions. It delivers a wide range of functions for the senior judiciary and to more than 20,000 judicial office holders including legal and policy advice, communications, international, training (through the Judicial College), human resources, welfare, library and information services. Through the independent Judicial Conduct Investigations Office, we deal with complaints about the conduct of judicial officeholders. The Judicial Office also provides support to the Chief Coroner, the Judge Advocate General and the Lord Chancellor.

**Strategy and Modernisation Team**

This advertisement is for four HEO Strategy Adviser roles in the Strategy and Modernisation Team. The Strategy and Modernisation Team works across the judiciary to advice, facilitate and implement key strategic policies for the modernisation of the judiciary. We also support projects and work collaboratively across the Judicial Office including the Private Offices of senior judges, in support of the key strategic aims of the Lord Chief Justice, Senior President of Tribunals, and other senior judiciary by designing, delivering and co-ordinating policies or projects to deliver on those aims.
The team is currently undergoing a period of transition and therefore there will need to be an ability and willingness to work flexibly in this role and provide ad hoc support to different parts of the team which require additional resource to deliver discrete projects/tasks.
The four HEO Strategy Adviser roles include a cross-cutting Strategy Adviser to work across jurisdictions, a Strategy Adviser for Tribunals, a Strategy Adviser for Civil and family and a Strategy Adviser for Crime. In each role you will work on varied projects within a multifunctional team and have regular contact with the senior judiciary. Working with G7 and SEOs, you will help in identifying and designing policies and strategies and working with varied stakeholders to ensure they are deliverable and implemented. You will need to be able to deal with senior judges and officials with confidence and an ability to influence upwards, providing both oral and written briefings to senior judges and colleagues. All roles will involve working across Judicial Office and wider government to establish strong relationships and effect change.

**1. Strategy Adviser (Cross-Cutting)**

Reporting to the Senior Strategy Adviser, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of key strategic policies and programme across jurisdictions. As a part of the role, you will work collaboratively across the Judicial Office to support the implementation of policies and projects. This role will require engagement with Judicial Office Holders including judges across the judiciary, sometimes at the most senior levels.
As a part of the role, you will work collaboratively across the Judicial Office, HMCTS, Ministry of Justice, and other Government Departments to support the implementation of policies and projects which drive forward these changes.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Supporting the SEOs and G7s with the delivery of Modern Judiciary, including Additional Fees, Working Practices Review and Reform. This may include engagement with the judiciary, contributing to briefings and setting up various meetings
- Supporting the wider team with ad hoc administrative and secretariat support as required
- Provide briefing and advice and coordinate meetings on joint reform products (S&L and Video Hearings).
- Design and deliver implementation plan for cross-cutting projects

**2. Strategy Adviser (Tribunals)**

Reporting to the Principal Strategy Adviser for Tribunals, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the strategic vision of the Senior President of Tribunals and his Chamber and Tribunal Presidents, including modernisation
