**Job summary**:
The Surface Flotilla (SURFLOT) is responsible for the operation, force generation and in-service capability management of all warships in the Royal Navy. It delivers available, safe and environmentally compliant surface platforms to meet Navy Command and Defence Plan directed outputs, supporting operations around the globe. The Commander of the Surface Flotilla (COMSURFLOT), as the Operating Duty Holder, is accountable for Health Safety and Environmental Protection (HSEP) across all ships, boats and diving units within the command. The governance of HSEP is managed by the Operating Safety Group (OSG), which provides policy, specialist advice and assurance across SURFLOT. The OSG is based in Navy Command Headquarters at Whale Island.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week, full-time, part time,job share and flexible working.

**Job description**:

- The Operating Safety Group Governance position manages the formal HSEP governance programme that provides assurance to the Operating Duty Holders that the Ships, Boats and Diving Units are Safe to Operate and can Operate Safely. This includes the coordination of key HSEP meetings and boards, the day-to-day management of safety and environmental risks, and the supporting records and data management that underpins the functioning of the Operating Safety Group.**Person specification**:

- Programming and coordinating the key SURFLOT HSEP governance boards including the production of records of actions and decisions.
- Coordinating the Operating Duty Holder safety and environmental risk register (currently run on Project On Line), ensuring all risks are reviewed and updated as mandated.
- Coordinating and maintaining records of key safety and environmental documents, ensuring all document sponsors review and update as required.
- Managing the SURFLOT safety and environmental competency records, identifying shortfalls in training that may generate risk or issues.
- Managing the Operating Safety Group diary, task tracker and backlog (on MS Teams).
- Being the information and record manager for the Operating Safety Group (on MS SharePoint) and running the team website.
