**The Role**

We are seeking an approachable and well-organised individual to join our small and friendly Human Resources department to cover a period of maternity leave for up to one year.

Under the guidance of the Head of HR, the HR Officer will work closely with the Fellowship Administrator and HR Assistant to provide a comprehensive generalist service to the College.

The team report to the First Bursar and provide professional support to all the varied departments that make up the College community.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Advisory Support**
- Act as the first point of contact in the department for non-academic managers and staff, prioritising and identifying action required across a range of correspondence.
- Deal with issues, undirected where possible, on behalf of the Head of HR.
- Provide advisory support to managers and staff on issues including the implementation of family friendly policies and performance management (monitoring the completion of and advising on probation and annual performance reviews).
- Monitor sickness absence records and notify managers when trigger points are met. Advise on absence management issues and take part in meetings with managers as required.

**Recruitment**
- Produce high quality recruitment materials.
- Place recruitment advertisements in relevant places including on the College website and with the University.
- Co-ordinate recruitment interviews, taking part in shortlisting and interview panels.
- Support all other aspects of the recruitment process in busy periods or in the absence of the HR Assistant.

**Administrative Support**
- Draft offers of employment for new and existing members of staff.
- Issue letters to staff relating to changes in employment.
- Ensure holiday entitlement records are correct on the HR & Payroll system (Cascade).
- Provide reference letters for former employees.
- Arrange disciplinary and grievance meetings and take notes at the meetings.
- Administer the Cycle to Work Scheme for non-academic staff.
- Manage apprenticeship records on the government portal.
- Work closely with the Fellowship Administrator and HR Assistant to ensure that salary and other information is correct and up to date on Cascade.
- Support all other aspects of HR administration in busy periods and in the absence of the HR Assistant.

**Other**
- Conduct exit interviews, following up issues as required.
- Conduct College inductions for new members of staff.
- Carry out Right to Work checks and chase up visas that are due to expire.
- Act as Secretary to the Staff Consultative Group.
- Act as Secretary to the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
- Proactively review departmental practices, suggesting and implementing improvements as necessary.
- Undertake other adhoc/project work as directed by the Head of HR.

**The Person**

We seek to appoint a professional individual with excellent organisational skills who enjoys working as part of a close-knit team.

Approachability and relationship-building skills will be key for this role to be successful for the period of the contract.

**Knowledge & experience**
- Education to at least A level standard.
- Education to degree level (desirable).
- CIPD qualified to at least level 3 (level

5 desirable) or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Previous experience of working in an administrative role in an HR department.
- Previous experience of working in an advisory HR role (highly desirable).
- Previous experience in a similar or related environment (desirable).
- Excellent office and computer skills, including familiarity with Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Good level of numeracy.
- Familiarity with editing web pages (desirable).

**Remuneration**

The post is offered at a salary of £27,927 per annum (full time equivalent is £34,909 per annum). The post holder will join the College’s auto-enrolment pension scheme with generous additional contribution options on completion of probationary period.

The College offers full-time members of staff 32 days holiday per year, including Bank Holidays. All staff working over a mealtime are eligible to take a free lunch or dinner in the servery.
