OVERVIEW

We are a non-emergency patient transport service specialising in the conveyance of people with mental health needs. We are looking for bright and motivated individuals to take on the role of Ambulance Care Assistant Driver (ACAD).

Our work puts teams right at the heart of mental health services locally and nationally, supporting service users to get the help they need. We support both private and NHS hospitals and services to pick up and convey / transfer service users who may be acutely unwell, from home addresses, police stations, hospitals and care homes.

This is an exciting role that offers flexible hours. We are a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week service and are looking for applicants that are able to work on a bank.

We offer comprehensive blended training, which is a mix of on-line training and face to face training. Training is companyf -funded and rates are very competitive. We also accept appropriate certificates from other providers.

Applicants must have a full driving license, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Given the important work we do, a caring attitude towards patients and an outgoing, friendly manner, plus the ability to show empathy are key to ensuring success in this role.

As an ambulance care assistant driver, you will work closely with your team mates. You will primarily be responsible for:

-      preparing the vehicle, and driving safely at all times.
-      assisting, moving and supporting patients, who may be in acute mental health crisis, and/or be ambulatory or wheelchair bound, using appropriate equipment where necessary, and manoeuvring patients in wheelchairs into and out of the vehicle. Ensuring patients are safely seated whilst in transit.
-      Minimising and dealing with aggressive and abusive behaviour to reduce risks to safety and ensure patient welfare.

Ambulance Care Assistant Driver (ACAD) responsibilities:

-      working as part of the care team to support the patient on board
-      taking responsibility for ensuring the vehicle is safely and responsibly driven
-      reviewing section papers when conveying patients detained under the Mental health Act 1983 (following training)
-      Supporting challenging patients, who may need physical restraint
-      Working in a care-setting, including A&E where we are escorting a patient
-      Liaising with ward staff on the safe conveyance of a patient to and from places of safety

Pre-employment checks and training requirements
We do require the following before any applicant can begin work with us:

-      Enhanced DBS (company funded)
-      On-line training courses (company - funded
-      classroom based training sessions - prevention and management of violence and aggression, safeguarding level 2, role of the care worker and mental health awareness (company -funded) - see current training offer
-      2 references covering a 5 year work history
-      proof of address
-      Proof of ID
-      a full, clean driving license and you are over 25 years of age

We do not require that you complete your training through us, if you have your own in-date and valid certificates, we would be happy to accept these.

Working Pattern : We do not offer set shifts or specific work patterns as the offer of work depends on your availability and the number of transport requests received

This is a zero hour contract position, however we are a 24 hour/ 7 days a week service and can potentially offer hours around your individual commitments

We offer different pay rates during the day, night, Sunday or bank holiday, the rate ranges from: £11.50 per hour

Experience: not necessary as full training will be provided
