St Ed’s is a provider of alternative vocational education for young people mainly aged 11-18.

This role is outreach based, and being able to drive and have their own vehicle will be essential for all applicants.

**Key Purpose**

The role of the Welfare Support Officer will have an impact on the quality of Teaching and Learning. We are looking for someone who will:

- Be working both at St-Eds and in schools supporting young people with engagement and more
- Be able to formulate effective working relationships with young people, and parents/carers to assess and overcome barriers to learning to enable students to access their education and achieve.
- Be able to attend and professionally represent the organisation in external meetings and within outreach services
- Be able to assess individual learning needs and support strategies for students and ensuring this is integrated into their individual learning plan.
- To work alongside the delivery team in supporting vulnerable students to succeed
- To be confident with ICT suites and software to accurately record data and information.
- To ensure the health, safety, safeguarding and well-being of learners, staff and visitors in accordance with St Ed’s operating policies
- To support all students in achieving their potential by taking a pro-active, enthusiastic, and flexible approach in accordance with St Ed’s ethos and operating procedures, policies and corporate strategy.

Working closely with the Welfare Team you will be responsible for supporting students to enable them to gain an insight and understanding of their individual needs whether this maybe learning or emotional needs.

**Core responsibilities**
- To make confident and reasoned decisions in safeguarding concerns and incidents.

To establish good working relationships with the individual learners to support them in the process of transition to full time education, training or employment
- To identify and remove the barriers to learning, attendance, performance, and progression by direct intervention, through developing support mechanisms and, when necessary, by referring (through agreed procedures) the individual learner to support agencies and specialists for help.
- To be confident with addressing challenging behaviour and conducting support interventions to enable a young person to access their learning successfully.
- Manage behaviour of students using a range of approaches, and following warning procedures and processes for multi-agency support, reintegration and restorative meetings keeping timely and accurate records of interventions.
- To represent the Society professionally when attending outreach services and external meetings.

To monitor the progress and attendance of designated learners, and to offer encouragement, guidance and practical support where appropriate.

To gather, input and collate student reports and gathering student feedback to support the quality and development of our service

To liaise with teaching staff, personal tutors and other support staff in helping individual learners set realistic and appropriate targets to support them in gauging their own performance
- To access and share learner information within information-sharing protocols to help ensure that transitions and progression opportunities available to young people.
- To assist in the collection and maintenance of all confidential information and records relating to learners - ensuring these are accurately recorded on CPOMS safeguarding database.

To liaise with providers of education, training and employment in order to develop a sound understanding of the information and opportunities available to young people

To contact all learners including Early Leavers to collate and verify destination data
- To be aware of the Child Protection legislation and operate within the set guidelines.
- To be aware of the additional needs of ethnic minority individual learners in relation to language and equal opportunities and those needing additional support.

To attend regular meetings to discuss those at risk of disengaging from learning

The particular duties and responsibilities attached to this post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or level of responsibility entailed. The post-holder may, at times, be required to work outside of normal office hours or at weekends. Such variations would not in themselves justify the re-evaluation of the post.

**ESSENTIAL TO HAVE**

Experience in working in a social care setting working with vulnerable children and young people at risk of social exclusion and who are experiencing difficulties attending and maintaining their education placement
