St Ed’s is a provider of alternative vocational education for disconnected young people aged 11-18 (up to 25 with an EHCP).

This role will have a key impact on the Society’s ability to provide effective teaching and learning to young people within our centre by ensuring the support team can assist them to overcome the barriers to education that they have faced, or are still facing, and reach their full potential.

**Key Purpose**
- Take a strategic approach to the organisation of the welfare and outreach support team within the charity’s objectives and ethos.
- Support and deliver specialist assistance to the delivery team and enable pupils to access the full curriculum to their potential using trauma informed practices and emotional coaching strategies.
- To have a strong grasp and overview of course structure to aid learning needs.
- Oversee and work alongside the specialist welfare team in supporting all students especially the most vulnerable using trauma informed practices and the signs of safety model.
- Work successfully with external agencies, professionals, parents, guardians in providing the best possible support initiatives.
- Working in partnership with the local community/agencies to respond to the needs of students and to initiate multi agency meetings where appropriate.
- Manage relationships with schools and referral agencies and review the Welfare Pastoral and Outreach Service we offer to them annually if required by the Welfare Lead.
- To work alongside the Welfare Lead to assist with complex cases and relevant tasks as designated Safeguarding Lead.

**Core responsibilities**

Working closely with the General Manager and CEO you will be responsible for delivering and evaluating all levels of support, as well as building a good rapport with the students in order to support them in a package that builds on vocational, academic and leisure opportunities.
- The Head of Welfare will be responsible, with the Welfare Lead, for the development of welfare support strategies and approaches in mental health well-being and pastoral care.
- To provide a professional perspective and evaluation to the welfare support package offered to students, and to manage and coach the Welfare Lead and team in all related issues.
- To monitor the progress and attendance of students, and to offer encouragement, guidance and practical support where appropriate.
- To identify and remove the barriers to attendance, performance and progression by direct intervention, by developing support mechanisms and when necessary referring to external support agencies.
- To manage behaviour of students using a range of approaches and following procedures and processes for multi-agency support, reintegration and restorative meetings keeping timely and accurate records of interventions.
- To tailor support plans for students making an assessment of their overall needs. To contribute to and where appropriate undertake risk assessments of both activities and students.
- To engage and meet with staff and professionals to regularly review and evaluate the needs and risks of students with complex high-end needs.
- To ensure students individual support needs are being identified and communicated effectively within the centre. To ensure the team are responding to EHCP consultations and remain up to date with EHCP annual reviews.
- To undertake Pastoral home visits and community outreach to tackle barriers to learning and improve student attendance and outcomes.
- Guide the pastoral team to learning resources that will support their professional development. Contribute to the development of new resources and materials which support the understanding, knowledge and confidence of the delivery of the pastoral support service.
- Attend internal and external meetings where required regarding students who are vulnerable or at risk of disengaging.
- To liaise with teaching staff, personal tutors and other support staff in helping individual students set realistic and appropriate targets and to support them in gauging their own performance.
- To ensure that all staff and students are aware of and comply with St Ed’s safeguarding requirements and comply with St Eds safeguarding policies, child protection legislation, Prevent and other practices.
- To update relevant policy and procedures, including all student policies, linked to the effective running of the centre.
- To deliver in-house Safeguarding training and other relevant training which will improve the well-being and outcomes of students accessing the Centre.
- To assist in the collection and maintenance of all confidential information and records relating to students, utilising CPOMS for all electronic record
