Canterbury, United Kingdom Canterbury City Council Full time

**Visitor Services Officer**

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our brilliant Visitor Services Team

**Canterbury Museums & Galleries: a world of people, places, exploration and surprises**:
We are home to two of Canterbury’s major attractions: The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge and the Canterbury Roman Museum. Our truly diverse range of collections include ancient preserved Roman mosaics, the works of local artist Thomas Sidney Cooper, the original Bagpuss and a four-legged stuffed duck. We seek to use our collections to innovatively engage and inspire our visitors, and promote Health and Well-being in the community.

**About the Role**:
Our Visitor Services Officers are the friendly face of our service, warmly welcoming visitors of all ages and backgrounds, engaging them with our collections and generally delivering a high quality customer service that exceeds expectations.

They are involved in providing and updating information services, delivering events, family and school activities, and supporting income generation through selling admission tickets and merchandise.

They are also our eyes and ears in keeping the building and collections safe, and collecting visitor feedback which is essential to help us constantly improve our offer.

This is a great entry role for those looking to start a career in museums or the cultural heritage sector.

**About You**:
We are looking for an applicant who is great with people, is an excellent communicator and finds it rewarding to go the extra mile for their customers. You’ll be comfortable with groups, and willing to get involved with delivering learning activities for visiting schools and families.

You will have an interest in history and a curiosity about our collections, and will enjoy the many different conversations they will spark between you, your colleagues and our visitors.

You will have a can-do attitude, a flexible approach to teamwork, take a proactive approach in promoting our collections and information service, and will be happy to pitch in with whatever tasks come up day-to-day.

We operate 7 days a week, so you will need to be able to work over a two week shift pattern which includes regular weekends and occasional evenings.

**Working for Canterbury City Council**:
Canterbury City Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced DBS checks.

We also offer a range of excellent staff benefits which include:

- Local government pension with generous employer contribution
- Training and development scheme
- Good holiday entitlement
- Employee benefit scheme including childcare vouchers and discounted travel
- Discounted Flu jabs and health checks

Interviews are planned to take place in the week commencing 24th April.

Site maintenance is being carried out on 25 March 2023 between 00:00 - 12:00.
